Activities at Balclutha Court Care Home
At Balclutha Court our resident’s happiness is extremely important to us. We all know that a large part of this is keeping active and continuing to enjoy your interests and hobbies. At Balclutha Court, we have regular activities including arts and crafts, music, entertainment, trips to local attractions such as canal trips, safari parks and many more. Our activities team are always busy organising events, entertainment and excursions with the broadest possible appeal and many of our residents see living at Balclutha Court as an opportunity to develop a new skill or interest. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.
Karen Dillon
Karen Dillon is our Head of Activities and has worked within the home since 2005, starting out as a Carer. Karen is very outgoing and full of fun. She has many hobbies, with arts & crafts being her favourite, and her passion for this can be seen in our life enrichment programme.
Karen is supported by Kay Millar and Anita Marsh, between them they ensure that residents are happy and have loads of fun.
They are very keen to involve the residents in the decision making within the home to enhance their experience. They take part in the residents' meetings, catering forums and assist the General Manager in interviewing new staff members.
Read our brochure 'Life-enriching activities' for more information about life in our care homes.

Life at Balclutha Court Care Home
A question of sport
Aim for the bullseye, catch the ball and tell us your secrets. Residents at Balclutha Court continue to keep active while also flexing the old grey matter. We won't divulge any of the answers given but let's just say there were a few eye openers. Most importantly we continue to exercise our sense of humour
Celebrating the 'King'
Residents at Balclutha Court got "all shook up" celebrating Elvis Presleys birthday. We tested our knowledge of the "Kings" life and work and found that if you answer every question with the same answer that you will eventually get one right. We took a wee virtual trip to Gracland for a wee nosey at his house and obviously sang oor wee hearts oot to quite a few of his greatest hits while reinacting some questionable dance moves
It's all fun and games at Balclutha
Its all fun and games until someone loses!I. We have been doing lots of physical exercise lately but also like to keep our brains active too and what better way to keep the cogs ticking than a good old fashioned game of scrabble! We are not accusing anyone of cheating but did find a few spare letters under the tables after the game way over
A day of history
"We are not makers of history. We are made by history.”- Martin Luther King. Martin Luther King, Jr., Day is a holiday in the United States honouring the achievements of Martin Luther King, Jr., a Baptist minister and civil rights leader who advocated for nonviolent resistance against racial segregation.
Residents at Balclutha Court had a wee history lesson to in honor of Martin Luther King and his life. We were humbled to learn of the strength and determination of this amazing man and the changes that we are all grateful for today. We ate, drank and soaked up the history his life and work. We tested our knowledge of some of the greats by trying to guess the famous Quotes in a fun quiz. Our brains are now filled with even more knowledge than yesterday. Thank you Mr King!
A perfect picture!
Is it really a Christmas picture if everyone is looking at the camera anyway? Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house, Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse. WELL THATS NOT ACTUALLY TRUE, it was actually really quite noisy. There was music, dancing, a wee tipple, amazing grub from our fabulous chef and obviously as alway lots of laughter.
Community gift
Thank you so much to our friends at proud 2 care Your Voice Inverclyde for these amazing wee individualised chocolate bars and card from the kids. They really brought a smile to our faces. We will definitely be needing a trip to the dentist now we hope your Christmas was as fabulous as you!
