Activities at Brookfield Care Home
Our Activities coordinator dedicates her time on getting feedback from our residents of what they like to do. We have introduced paper mornings which involves group discussions and an active mind, and we also have a variety of entertainers that come in on a weekly basis. We hold a residents quiz once a week as it is one of our more popular activities, we now call it the Big Quiz due to its popularity.
It is important that we involve the community and family in many of our activities. We have the local rugby club heritage centre coming in once a week to do Bocci (indoor bowls) and seated exercise. We also hold cheese and wine evenings for family and residents which are very popular. Here at Brookfield we pride ourselves on the fabulous bond our activity coordinator has with all our residents as they are as happy to see her each morning as she is to see her friends.

Life at Brookfield Care Home
An impromptu afternoon tea
Brookfield care home in Lymm decided to celebrate the start of summer and take advantage of the sunshine to host an impromptu afternoon tea in the homes beautiful grounds.
We all know what it’s like when you’ve got a craving for something, which won’t be satisfied until you have it. So, when one of the ladies told General Manager, Sarah Nolan that she really fancied a slice of fresh cream cake, staff decided to put on a spread for them.
Residents go on safari
Staff and residents at Barchester’s Brookfield in Lymm were treated to an exciting live streaming tour of Knowsley Safari, hosted by Engagement Assistant, Verity Dann.
Knowsley Safari has been welcoming visitors for 50 years since it opened in July 1971. Situated in the Knowsley area of Merseyside, the safari park is home to 750 animals on a 550 acre site, it boasts the longest safari drive in the UK.
Cheese and sherry afternoon
Residents of Brookfield in Lymm enjoyed a spot of cheese and sherry in the homes library and many said what a lovely surprise it was. Staff offered the ladies and gents cheese and crackers and a small glass of sherry to enjoy, and it went down very well!
Cheese and sherry are a particularly good pairing and residents spoke about their favourite cheeses and all the different flavours available and look forward to the next tasting session.
Blooming Haus at Brookfield
Here at Brookfield in Lymm, we were delighted to spend time creating a beautiful floral masterpiece to enter the #BloomingBarchester competition in partnership with Blooming Haus following their amazing virtual flower arranging masterclass.
We all had a wonderful time decorating and working on our arrangement and we are happy to say we were impressed with our skills in applying all the tips and ideas learnt during the class to make a colourful floral design.
Residents enjoy trip to garden centre
Staff and residents at Brookfield care home in Lymm were celebrating being able to go on short excursions again as lockdown restrictions ease across the country. Residents are now able to go on a short trip to outdoor spaces without having to isolate on their return.
Residents from Brookfield enjoyed a long-awaited trip to their favourite garden centre where they were able to enjoy browsing through the colourful floral displays as they picked plants for their gardening club.
Sarah Nolan, General Manager at Brookfield commented: “It is absolutely wonderful to be able to take our residents out for trips again. We have all been waiting for this day and we are so thankful it is finally here. Our residents have enjoyed all sorts of different entertainment during lockdown but nothing beats some fresh air and a change of scenery to blow away the cobwebs.”
V&A Ocean Liners talk
Staff and residents at Brookfield were treated to a photographic tour and talk about the era of ocean travel by V&A Dundee Curator, Charlotte Hale. The presentation forms part of a series of six talks and virtual tours that V&A Dundee is hosting for Barchester Healthcare’s care homes and private hospitals across the UK.
V&A Dundee is Scotland’s design museum, it showcases Scotland’s outstanding design achievements and features world-class exhibitions alongside the permanent Scottish Design Galleries, and a changing programme of commissions, events and activities.
