Activities at Brookfield Care Home

Our Activities coordinator dedicates her time on getting feedback from our residents of what they like to do. We have introduced paper mornings which involves group discussions and an active mind, and we also have a variety of entertainers that come in on a weekly basis. We hold a residents quiz once a week as it is one of our more popular activities, we now call it the Big Quiz due to its popularity.

It is important that we involve the community and family in many of our activities. We have the local rugby club heritage centre coming in once a week to do Bocci (indoor bowls) and seated exercise. We also hold cheese and wine evenings for family and residents which are very popular. Here at Brookfield we pride ourselves on the fabulous bond our activity coordinator has with all our residents as they are as happy to see her each morning as she is to see her friends.

Creative art

Residents from Brookfield often get together to enjoy their regular art and craft sessions which supports their creative ideas and encourages different methods of Art. Residents have been busy showing their own style of colourful designs.

This class is particularly popular with all and everyone thoroughly enjoys a get together with a cuppa and a slice of delicious cake.   Residents enjoy the colouring and crafting as find it very calming and therapeutic. It enhances mindfulness and promotes a positive mental well-being.

Vintage afternoon tea in the garden

The sun may have been hidden behind the clouds but that did not deter Residents of Brookfield and their families to enjoy a vintage afternoon high tea in the homes garden.

The hospitality team laid on a traditional fare of sandwiches, scones with cream and jam and a selection of home-made cakes for everyone to enjoy, served on vintage china, which was delicious.

It also led to a that age old question, jam or cream first!  How do you enjoy yours?

Simple pleasures

Residents here at Brookfield are very social and often enjoy a simple afternoon raising a glass of prosecco whilst tucking in to a selection of cheese and biscuits especially prepared by the homes hospitality team in the library.  It’s always a wonderful afternoon as conversations flow, memories shared as they look out to the homes beautiful gardens.

International Friendship Day

Today we marked International Friendship Day and celebrated the importance of platonic relationships between people of different ages, nationalities and religions.

We got involved in fun-filled activities, such as designing and writing cards with thank you notes to our local community groups, families and also to team members and residents at the home.

To make the day even more special, we tasted delicious friendship cookies, prepared by our talented chef.

International Youth Day

We celebrated International Youth Day virtually with English National Ballet’s youth dance company, ENBYouthCo and their Creative Director, Richard Bermange.

We had the opportunity to watch A Comedy in Long-shot, participate in a chair-based creative dance workshop and observe an open rehearsal where Richard and the young dancers created a performance inspired by our childhood memories.

It was a wonderful experience, enjoyed by all.

Book Lovers Day

Here at Brookfield we were very happy to celebrate Book Lovers Day, as we all share a passion for reading.

Our residents exchanged information about their favourite books and had a discussion about literature, local writers and famous libraries.

Some spent time writing reviews on recent books that they have read and other selected interesting books that they would like to read next.

We all gathered together to listen, as one of our residents read aloud paragraphs from her favourite book.
