"The care that my Mum has received over the last year has been exemplary. Without exception, each of the carers and nurses that have looked after my Mum have treated her with dignity, kindness and compassion. I know it is in the job title, but it is obvious that they really do CARE about everything that they do for her. Mum has also been given the opportunity for social interaction at the huge variety of activities that are put on for the residents and this has been a great benefit to her. My Mum's and my family's experience at Challoner House Care Home has been excellent. We have been made to feel welcome and at home at Challoner and I have no hesitation in recommending it."

"Since my mother-in-law came for respite 2 weeks ago, we have noticed a great improvement in her. She is really happy and loves the place and staff. She looks better and says she feels well. The home appears to be really well managed and is spotlessly clean. When we visit all the staff are very friendly. We are hoping mum can stay here."

"Mum has been in Challoner House 3 and a half years. Her health has improved and she seems happy and content. She has also made friends with several residents and joins in most of the activities."

"Coffee and cakes were always available on arrival as a visitor and were much appreciated. The staff were always friendly and helpful. We moved Dad on the 9th August 2019 mainly because mum was being discharged from the hospital and they wanted to be together. The cost of Challoner House was not possible. Although the nursing home is very good we felt that they could manage to live in a care/residential house which saved them 50% of the cost at Challoner. Our aim is for mum and dad to return home soon and live out their remaining years with care at their home they have shared for 53 years."

"My Dad has really enjoyed his short stay here. He has been made to feel very welcome as I have. The staff are amazing. Nothing is too much trouble. Very kind and caring. The only negative point would be not enough grab rails in the bathroom."

"I have really enjoyed my stay here. The staff go beyond the call of duty. Nothing is too much trouble. The only negative comment I do have is there could be more handrails in the bathroom."

"When it became clear Mum wasn't looking after herself, I spoke to Challoner on the Tuesday and when I rang on the Thursday in rather a panic, they were able to accommodate her the next day. My experience of all the people who worked at Challoner was always very good. They treated Mum with care, kindness and patience which made a potentially worrying time much easier for us to cope with."

"My mother was well looked after at Challoner House. The staff couldn't have been more kind and understanding to her. She was always treated with respect and dignity, and in this, her final month, her care was outstanding despite her considerable needs. Although the staff were extremely busy they always had time to chat to my mother, and were good friends to her and me. The home is beautifully furnished, the gardens are a constant joy, and there is always a delicious choice of food at meal times. The activities team have such a good rapport with the residents, and have a wide choice of activities. Thank you to everyone."

"Challoner House is a comfortable, attractive home with lovely gardens. According to my relative, food is a bit hit and miss. The nursing and care team do an excellent job, especially during these trying times. The manager keeps families fully informed of what is happening in the home. Overall a good home."

"The home has looked after my father for nearly 2 years. All of the staff are friendly and the care is excellent. There is always a good range of activities for the residents which are tailored well to their needs. The nursing care is first class and the nurses knowledgeable and caring. My father has always been happy at Challoner. The administration has always been efficient and accurate, with any issues quickly sorted. Dad has always been listened to and any suggestions acted upon and sorted. He feels safe and looked after which is important for him and the family."

"Under very difficult circumstances, Challoner has dealt with the covid situation very well. The staff have remained cheerful and caring. My only complaint is weak communication as to the situation of another company taking over payment, and my mother has not been reimbursed."

"A short while ago my sister was brought here both legs heavily bandaged leaking water and some blood. Very painful arthritis in her arms. Now she is bandage free in both legs and her legs are 100% better. I would say a magic wand was waved but I know it is due to the care and time spent with her that achieved her situation now. Many thanks to all the staff from her very grateful sister."

"My parents have been residents at Challoner House for five months. The care they have received has been excellent. The nursing staff and carers are true professionals; they have met my parents needs head-on. My father suffered a stroke and has dementia; he has been given excellent care with all personal needs and treated with respect. My mother has cancer, all her needs have been met with care and humour. The staff have lept their morale up during this difficult Covid time. I have visited when allowed and have been reassured of all the Covid measures in place to keep my parents safe. The staff have been very supportive during what has been a stressful time for all of us. I cannot recommend Challoner House enough - first class. Thank you."

"It was a very sad day when my husband and I decided he could no longer live at home. We could not wish for a better home from home. The staff go out of their way to please - both resident and relative. Although I miss my husband desperately it is a great comfort to know he is so well cared for."

"When trying to accommodate the needs of our parents to remain in their own home, we reached a critical point. Despite all visiting agencies being good in their own right, managing it all became impossible. And so, with heavy hearts, we searched for a care home to look after them. We reached out to places that could assist them both to have a good quality of life whilst leaving their own home behind. Along with others, we looked at Barchester Challoner House Care Home in Chandler's Ford, it gave us a good feel factor, staff were kind and sympathetic. It felt clean and looked after. After a week of settling in, which must have been hugely traumatic for them, they became very positive about aspects of their experience. They now had 24-hour care and medical support always at hand. Mum was a chatterbox who got on well with staff. Dad is always up and dressed into a wheelchair to spend time with Mum or activities as he chooses. A care home is largely only as good as all who work there and the way they are manager. It was an excellent experience for the last three months of their lives."

"This very attractive care home is an absolute pleasure to visit. On arrival you're met by very happy and welcoming staff with refreshments available if required. The rooms - leisure, dining and bedrooms are all of a very high standard, and there's a full programme of entertainment and activities each week for the residents - plus sometimes the opportunity for a trip out. The gardens and grounds, kept immaculate, are an added bonus in the summer. My aunt is so happy there, and is always very complimentary about the food. So all in all an absolute gem - somewhere I'd have no hesitation to book for myself."

"My husband was admitted for the last week of his life for palliative and nursing care. He was treated with all possible care and attention and I felt confident leaving him in the care of the staff at Barchester Challoner House Care Home. I was made welcome by all and able to visit at any time. I would recommend Challoner House to anyone needing this level of nursing and care."

"Gardens are lovely, if it was the summer I would take cuttings from flowers but will be back. Think there could be a bit of updating in the home painting. The staff have made me feel very welcomed. The chef looked after me very well. Cleaners were very good and helpful. So, thank you all very much."

"My mum spent fourteen months at Barchester Challoner House Care Home between August 2023 and October 2024. Unfortunately, she was 90% paralysed after two strokes and needed a high level of nursing care. All of the staff were fabulous throughout, caring and attentive. When she was well enough, they got her up into a wheelchair so she could join the other residents for activities and meals. They even managed to get her out on their bus for trips, including to the New Forest for ice cream on one occasion and on another stopping in a pub garden for a half of bitter. She particularly enjoyed the visits from entertainers and the singalongs. The home kept us informed of her medical situation and were absolutely marvellous with her when it was time to go which she eventually did peacefully in her sleep. We couldn't have asked for more."

"My father was admitted to Challoner House in July 223. He was very poorly and not expected to live for long. However, he improved and received care at Challoner until he passed away peacefully there in May 24. The staff have been so kind, caring and supportive throughout this difficult time."

"A good home, well-run, the staff are kind, caring and efficient. There are no nasty smells, it's clean and food is healthy and traditional. There are regular activities so residents don't get bored. As a registered nurse, I was fussy where my husband went, nowhere is perfect. But Barchester Challoner House Care Home is about as good as it gets."

"The whole staff go beyond their duties which played out for all to see when the resident recently had her 100th birthday event. It really was superb everyone involved just could not do more not only for this event. Everyone is so friendly, like a family which means so much to those who have no family."

"The home is very homely. The members of staff are all very friendly and all say hello when they see you and have a laugh and a joke with you and Dad which creates a good atmosphere. The girls all wave when they pass Dad's room and speak to him. The nurses are very helpful and answer any questions about Dad. Also, the lads that bring the drinks trolley round are very friendly and helpful."

"My husband recently spent two weeks in Barchester Challoner House Care Home for end of life care. Although his stay was short I cannot fault the care he received. All the staff were so kind and helpful, nothing was too much trouble, no problem unsolvable. The care and compassion shown to both my husband and myself were first rate and I shall always be grateful to all concerned. I would wholeheartedly recommend Challoner to anyone seeking a safe, kind and caring environment for a loved one."

"Mother was found a place at very short notice in July when her former care home closed without adequate warning. She was 102. When she had settled down, she told me that this was the best thing that I had ever done for her, Finally, her age and frailty caught up with her and an ACP (Anticipatory Care Process) was instigated. The senior nurses at the home were excellent talking me through the inevitable and what to expect with their prime concern to keep Mother comfortable. They had a great liaison with her new GP who seemed to be fully aware of everything that was happening. At 3.20 a.m. on a Sunday, a Senior called to say that she had passed away. The ACP had included instructing an undertaker so there was nothing for me to do. Nobody likes to think about End of Life care. I echo Mother's words. Moving her to Challoner was the best thing we could have done for all of us."

"In the few years that Daddy spent at the care home, he became a favourite with some of the carers. He was a bit of a joker in his day and the staff always joined in. All the staff were professional and they took the time to answer queries. Bless you, for your patience and commitment. Thank you."
