Activities at Chester Court Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinator is dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.
Our aim is to make sure that our residents feel they had something to look forward to each day. We have a varied life enrichment programme, both in the home and in the community, and we always ask if there is anything different that residents would like to do. Residents and families approach our Activities Coordinator and comment on how much they enjoy what we do, so that we can continue to develop our programme to the benefit of our residents.
Lauren Corbett
Hi, my name is Lauren and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Chester Court. I joined the team in December 2020 and bring a wealth of enthusiasm to the role. I have just graduated from university in July 2020 and have previously completed work experience at another Barchester home. During this work experience I discovered how meaningful and important activities are for residents and how they can help enhance resident’s lives. Therefore, I decided to become an activities coordinator myself as I feel this is such a rewarding role.
I love working with our Residents here at the home and getting to know them and their families so that I can deliver and support in meaningful activities, keeping them socially stimulated and active as part of our extensive life enrichment calendar. The lifestyle and continued community links are also important.

Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Chester Court Care Home
Father's Day celebrations
To celebrate Father’s day residents watched our first live entertainer in over a year! There was cheers all around as Kev Royale performed. Staff and residents really enjoyed the show! We have really missed being able to welcome performers into our home during lockdown, although we’ve had lots of virtual concerts, quizzes and talks, nothing beats a live performance.
Residents also reminisced about their children and loved ones and spent time writing some advice and wisdom about being a father and what it means to them. They were also treated to a nice cold glass of beer along with homemade corn beef pie, chips and peas.
National Carers Week
Residents at Chester Court are celebrating National Carers’ Week. Residents wanted to thank all the wonderful staff at the home, whose hard work and dedication make a real difference to the lives of those living in their care. Residents did this by giving handmade cards and paper roses to carers as a small gift of thanks for all that they do.
Carers Week is an annual event to raise awareness of caring, highlighting the challenges carers face, and recognising the contribution they make to our residents, families and communities throughout the UK. The theme for Carers Week this year is ‘Making caring visible and valued’ - to shine a light on all those who work tirelessly behind the scenes to care for vulnerable people in our communities.
Nutrition and Hydration Week
Fresh Fruit Friday! Residents at Chester Court thoroughly enjoyed eating fruit kebabs with various fruits including, melon, kiwi, raspberries, blackberries strawberries and avocado. This week aims to highlight, promote and celebrate improvements in the provision of nutrition and hydration.
'Beer' happy for National Beer Day
You better beer-lieve that residents at Chester Court care home in Bedlington, were more than hoppy to raise a glass, and sample some top ales, in celebration of National Beer Day.
Beer lovers at the home celebrated, and spread beery joy by joining the national toast at 7pm on June 15th, along with millions of people across the country to say ‘Cheers to Beer!’
Residents visited the “Chester Court Arms” and enjoyed a beer tasting session along with games of darts and dominos.
Sarah, General Manager at the home, said: “We love socialising and celebrating all kind of events. National Beer Day is a day that the residents really enjoy, who doesn’t enjoy a cold beer on a summer’s day!”
Residents enjoy tour of Hereford Cathedral
We had a lovely time joining the team from Hereford Cathedral for an exciting virtual session.
We enjoyed a glimpse of this spectacular building and its treasures in a series of short pre-recorded videos. From the stunning gardens which lead down to the River Wye, to the Mappa Mundi and Chained Library.
It was wonderful to learn more about the history and beauty of Hereford Cathedral.
Home celebrate Queen's Birthday
Chester Court in Bedlington marked the Queen’s official 95th birthday on June 12th in style with a right royal tea party.
Head chef Dawn whipped up a tasty selection of freshly-baked sausage rolls, jam tarts, fruit scones with jam and cream, cucumber sandwiches, salmon sandwiches and a royal cake for the occasion, all washed down with pots of tea. Residents took part in a variety of royal–themed events including watching the Trooping the Colour Parade along with the fly-past, and taking part in a how well do you know Queen Elizabeth quiz.
Sarah, General Manager at Chester Court said: “Our residents love a party and they love the Queen so they all enjoyed the tea and cakes and watching the parade and the fly-past to mark the Queen’s official birthday.”
