Activities at Cubbington Mill Care Home
Every day we run different activities throughout our home. The activities are designed and adapted to each individuals personal needs. The activities are designed to mentally and physically stimulate the people we care for and also to enhance their life skills and feelings of purpose and self-worth. The activities encourage interaction on a one to one basis, in small groups, in large groups and some are designed for the whole home including staff to be involved in.
We are registered with the National Activity Providers Association (NAPA) which ensures we are able to achieve and continually progress to enhance the quality of life for those we support in the home. We provide entertainers such as singers, musicians, magicians, puppeteers, poets and dancers. We also have regular exercise classes and arts and craft classes. Relatives and visitors will be able to see what me make in these classes on display around the home. We have regular trips out on the mini bus to visit garden centres, enjoy high tea, visit the butterfly farm and spend the day at the zoo with a picnic. We encourage the local community, schools, colleges and relatives to come and join us for activities, tea and cake and to visit to share their skills as much as possible.
Staff from across the home are always willing to help and share their knowledge and skills across a whole range of activities we have had everything from carers preforming Bollywood style dancing to cooking classes from the chef. We feel activities are a vital part of the residents lives to ensure they are stimulated mentally and entertained.

Life at Cubbington Mill Care Home
107th Birthday Celebrations
Celebrations have been in full swing at Cubbington Mill, as one of its residents reaches his 107th Birthday in style.
John was born on 7th June 1913 in Enfield, London and age 16 got a job in Upper Thames Street, London as an apprentice repairing typewriters, he travelled all over London repairing typewriters ultimately getting a job at Ford in Dagenham, Essex 1934-1942 as a resident typewriter mechanic. In 1942 Ford offered John a job in Leamington Spa making tank tracker assistance for the army, so John moved to Leamington in 1942 and continued to work at Ford Motor Company for 40 years before coming to Cubbington Mill, where he is enjoying a new chapter of his life.
As John was unable to have any visits from relatives he celebrated with his Cubbington Mill Family as well as Daughter and Son-in-law through Skype. Speaking about his 107th the staff at Cubbington Mill said: “John is fantastic, he makes us laugh every day and it’s wonderful to be with him on this very special day to say just how proud he makes us feel.” For his birthday John received yet another telegram from the Queen in recognition of this landmark birthday. A champagne reception was held at the home and a special birthday cake was made by the home’s chef Oliver Hopkins.
John received a whopping 256 cards from the local community! The amazing team at Morrisons, Leamington Spa, donated birthday decorations, cards and cakes to celebrate John’s day as well as gifting a beautiful blanket and bottle of whiskey. PCSO Sharron Underwood and PC Amy Paull from The Kenilworth and Warwick Rural Police team joined us to wish John a happy birthday and bought him a lovely card. Long term employer Ford Motor Company have celebrated John reaching this fantastic age by featuring him in their worldwide newsletter, as well as sending a letter of congratulations from Elena Ford.
The kind gestures were a wonderful surprise and John has thoroughly enjoyed receiving every letter and postcard sent to him while sharing the bounty of treats with other residents and staff.
Over the Rainbow
The team here at Cubbington Mill have painted a huge rainbow banner from the staff, residents and their families to show support and thanks to key workers who are continuing to work during the lockdown. This is displayed at the front of our home for all to see as they take their daily walk.
April Activities
Cubbington Mill residents have enjoyed our activities during April, which included Easter celebration, singalongs, movement to music, arts and crafts, colour therapy, colouring rainbows, weekly quizzes and pamper treats in the hair salon.
For the Heroes
Cubbington Mill received a very kind and generous donation from Anne and Fred, who live in Cubbington. They made all the staff pillow cases with a drawstring to put their uniforms in to be washed safely. Such a kind and thoughtful thing to do and we all really appreciate your kindness.
National Tea Day
Residents celebrated 'National Tea Day' with lots of lovely teas and yummy biscuits. We also enjoyed colouring tea-themed pictures.
St Patrick's Day
St Patrick's Day was spent painting shamrocks and listening to Irish music here at Cubbington.
