Activities at Denmead Grange Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we won’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our activities team is dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Lisa Harris

Activities Coordinator

Being Head of life Enrichment isn’t just a job, it’s a passion.

My time with the residents has and will always be an honour and pleasure.

Finding out their interests and hobbies, so I can tailor the weekly planner is such a great thing to do, as this means lots of chats over a good cuppa! But it also means that I can get to know them personally and get to understand a part of their past, so I can continue to help them experience their interests in this next phase of their lives.

A truly rewarding role, where I can be part of and contribute to something meaningful. All I hope for, is to make this journey for both the residents and their families, as restful, easy and enjoyable as possible. Then I know I’ve done my part.

Life at Denmead Grange Care Home

International Nurses' Day

Residents at Denmead Grange wanted to say a big thank you to the hardworking nurses in our local area this year by celebrating with a giant hamper.

We got together to brainstorm the kind of things we thought the nurses would like in a hamper: wine, chocolates, gorgeous smelly products, such as perfumes; body lotions and hand creams were all chosen to fill the wicker basket.

On Wednesday 12th May, a nurse arrived at the care home to be greeted by a fellow resident who handed over the giant hamper. The nurse was delighted and thanked us all for our generosity, she took this back to the surgery to give out all the gifts to all the nurses.

St Patrick's Day

Our Head of Life Enrichment dressed our events trolley in green, white and orange to celebrate the yearly event. He created a portable bar to travel around the home, with a fantastic drinks menu alongside it.

The classic Irish drinks, such as Guinness, Cider and Bailey’s, went down a treat, joined with traditional Irish jig music. We had a lovely evening celebrating St Patrick’s Day.

Celebrating 1 Year

We just can’t believe how fast time flies! It’s our one year anniversary of our first resident moving into Denmead Grange. We celebrated with a fantastic afternoon tea lunch dressed by Lloyd, our Head of Life Enrichment; and a delicious banquet of cakes, sandwiches and treats prepared by Head Chef, Andy.

We also gathered as many staff as we could to social distance in the garden, along with our first ever resident, to have a one year photo!

We look forward to the many more years to come here at Denmead Grange.

Mother's Day

This Mothering Sunday, we were busy making our home as colourful as possible! We had our very own flower arranging competition.

Residents at Denmead Grange all chose a vase, decorations and flowers to make a wonderful bouquet. These arrangements were pictured and given a fantastic name.

Our Facebook community voted for their favourite and our winner this year was Rosemary! She received a great 15 votes and won a faux bouquet for her room and a giant Easter bunny. She was so pleased!

Shrove Tuesday

Our Head of Life Enrichment, Lloyd, put his pancake making skills to the test during lunch on Pancake Day! He made, cooked and flipped everyone a fresh pancake whilst they ate their lunch. This was extremely comical, as Lloyd isn’t the most skilled chef. The residents enjoyed a pancake or two with their favourite topping. We also had a pancake flipping competition after lunch.

Valentine's Day

This Valentine’s Day was a jolly one indeed, full of love and appreciation. Before the Sunday, we asked our residents for their advice on love.

On the Sunday, we had a Valentine’s photo shoot and a themed, 3-course Valentine’s lunch, with as many love heart decorations as the eye could see!
