Activities at Dovedale Court Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.
Brian Sandham
My name is Brian, I’m the activities coordinator down here at Dovedale. I’m new to the care sector, I’ve been a photographer and photography tutor since 2004 dealing with different ages groups and abilities. I’m looking forward to putting my people skills to good use down here at Dovedale.
I might be new to the care sector but I’m super looking forward to spreading a bit of extra sunshine and cheer around the home.

Life at Dovedale Court Care Home
Over the Rainbow
To combat loneliness and isolation staff at Dovedale Court reached out to the community as part of their extended social network to seek pen-pals of all ages reaching to remain connected during the current coronavirus crisis. Residents were delighted to receive colourful pictures sent to the home's inbox from members of local group, Preston Crafters Community. Thank you for adding a little colour and sunshine to our residents day and for your heartfelt message.
Contact with our Community
Thank you to West Bengal, who donated an emergency food parcel to members of the home's staff team. On behalf of Dovedale colleagues, they would like to pass on their gratitude for being considered at this time of uncertainty, and hope everyone stays safe and well. It was such a nice gesture, thinking of us care homes and everyone joining forces to keep the community spirit together!
Arts & Crafts
Residents from Dovedale took part in a colourful rainbow themed arts and crafts session in the sun. Throughout the day, residents created lots of art that weas spread throughout the home and on the windows to show their thanks and support to their local community, with their bright new leggy friend, the giraffe, displayed in the homes window.
A Double Celebration
Dovedale Courtn celebrated the Queen’s birthday in style, whilst also brewing up a storm for National Tea Day on the 21st April with a virtual tea party.
Supplied with a tasty selection of biscuits, cakes and,of course, teas for the event, residents of Dovedale Court also had lots of fun taking part in a Skype video quiz challenge with sister home, Sutton Grange, and their residents; and enjoyed a singalong to music, taking part in puzzle challenges throughout the day and getting some much-needed vitamin D in our beautiful gardens.
A Four-Legged Friend
Dovedale was full of animal mischief recently when a special four-legged friend came to visit the home. Everyone was pleasantly surprised to see their new furry friend roaming around the garden as he paid a visit. We knew that having pet therapy here would be a bit of fun for all our residents, especially as some find it difficult to go on many outings in our minibus.
Love is in the Air
Dovedale was filled with flowers, cards and sweets in celebration of St Valentine’s Day. Staff, residents and guests celebrated the day of love with music and games, a chocolate making lesson, and creative arts and crafts.
The day showed us all that you are never too old for love. We had a whole range of treats and Valentine’s-themed fun for the individuals that live here and their guests, and we have enjoyed every moment of it!
