Reviews for Four Hills Care Home
What our families say on carehome.co.uk
"Feel the home could do with a good revamp. Some of the rooms are in need of brightening up. The food is varied but there is always something, even a sandwich. The carers are very hardworking and very pleasant. The activity team, "pink ladies", are absolutely fantastic with the residents, they always have them doing something fun or days out. There's nothing these four ladies won't do for the residents. 100% my favourites. I am concerned about the security."

"My mother was admitted to "Four Hills" just over one month ago. To date, I have been delighted with the care, attention and support given by the staff. My mother has dementia, and unfortunately, her condition has deteriorated over the last few years, but since going into "Four HiIls", she has been happier than she has ever been. The staff can't do enough for her. Throughout her stay, staff have kept me informed of her care, how she has been, etc, etc. This has been done both during my visits and indeed over the phone on days when I am not able to attend. As you can imagine, this goes some way to giving me peace of mind, and simultaneously, I can see this in my mother's demeanour and the care provided. To date, the assistance, care and attention given by the staff, including admin, managers, and care staff have been great. I would be delighted if this continues for the remainder of her stay."

"During the first 6/7 week initial assessment period, we found our aunt has been treated with great care and courtesy. Her bedridden situation has been understood by all nursing and care staff. On a personal level when visiting both my wife and I are welcomed, covid tested and made to feel comfortable by all the staff."

"Staff in the reception area are very good. Staff in the Firhill Unit are also good and helpful. However, there is one member who has an attitude problem and should treat visitors with more respect."

"This care home is fabulous. The staff are wonderful. They go out of their way to provide a home from home environment for the residents. My mum is very well looked after and I never need to worry about her care. They have an entertainment schedule to keep them occupied and often take them out. The surroundings are tastefully decorated to make the resident feel at home. The food is wonderful. My mum had always been very very happy there and has blossomed under their care."

"Mum has just celebrated her 90th birthday. Staff were all very helpful on the day - carers making sure she was changed and looking good, kitchen staff for organising afternoon tea for family and friends, reception staff for directing guests ensuring guidelines were followed etc. All guests have commented to the family since how welcoming Four Hills is and how impressed they were by the entrance, surroundings, staff etc. Well done, everyone, at Four Hills."

"My dad was moved to Four Hills Care Home - Lambhill Unit in June. Unfortunately, he was only there for just over a month before he passed away. The staff in the unit were amazing with my dad and all the family and made the last month of his life the best he could have had. They treated him with total dignity, and we can't thank them enough. They made us all feel so welcome and let us sit with him 24 hours a day in his last days and really looked after us all. I would definitely recommend this home."

"Since my mother aged 96 years old, joined Four Hills, Barchester, almost three years ago, myself and two brothers have been very happy with the service they provide. The staff are very friendly and take good care of our mum. She has settled very well and although her sight and hearing is not good she is comfortable with her surroundings. A couple of things could be improved on ie. Quite often, when I telephone, I get through to reception, but no one answers in the unit and her clothes are often lost or mixed up with other rooms. These are points that can be easily rectified. I appreciate there have been staff shortages due to Covid and hopefully things will get back to normal. I would thoroughly recommend Barchester to anyone and have done so in the past."

"My son and I were told about Barchester Four Hills Care Home by a hospice nurse who has a relative in the home after visiting other homes. We went to have a look and were completely blown away by the standard of care and attention by the staff. The home is beautiful and my wife has a smile on her face every time we visit. My family are delighted that Four Hills is the choice we have made to look after my wife."

"Wonderful staff. I know this job is not always an easy one and it takes patience, perseverance, kindness, tolerance, stamina, strength of character in addition to many other skills and traits - I could not list them all. However on top of all of this friendship and cheerful and generous are attributes shown towards the service users and visitors at all times. Could not speak more highly of the staff at Four Hills."

"I wanted to write this review to say how thankful I am for the care my friend receives at Four Hills Care Home. I have worked in elderly care as a nurse for many years so know what to look for. My friend is always clean-shaven, has trimmed fingernails and most importantly cared for in detail. The head nurse is always available to chat and makes time to see my husband and me when we visit. Well done. Four Hills-4 out of 4!"

"Whilst my friend has only been a resident for a couple of weeks it is clear that the staff are extremely friendly and are always willing to help. Overall the home has a very relaxed environment and I've always been made to feel welcome. The staff also interact with the residents constantly which I find to be very refreshing and positive. Well done on that. All staff are constantly smiling and talking to people. I for one acknowledge that people/employees have concerns and issues outside of the workplace. It shows massive professionalism, dedication and love for the job when employees are always so cheerful and committed, regardless of what's going on in their personal lives. For that, I commend the staff. Thank you."

"My husband and I attended a New Year party at the home where my mother-in-law resides. There was a duet singing and the home had put on drinks and nibbles. The place was busy and everyone appeared to be really enjoying the party. The activities staff were their wonderful self. Getting those up to dance who could and being inclusive of those that were in wheelchairs. We have been to a few parties now and this was one of the best. Well done to the staff."

"Staff have been great in making sure my mother has been well cared for after the recent bereavement of my father (also a care home resident). My mother feels comfy and treated as a person within Four Hills, this in turn reassures the rest of the family."

"Have great respect for all the staff, admin and management of this facility. Nothing is too much for them. They go above and beyond to make their residents as comfortable, clean and well looked after. For the short time my mother has been with them I am delighted to know she is safe, secure and well looked after as she will be there indefinitely due to illness and requires 24/7 care."

"Mum was transferred to the home from the hospital. From day 1 she was treated with respect and love. She laughed every day with the staff even when she found it hard to talk at the end. Everyone in the home looked after her as if she was their mother/grandmother. Thank you so much. I also felt welcome each time I visited. Again thank you."

"My mum was placed in Four Hills Care Home for palliative care until she passed away, she was angry at being unwell with a significant personality change. The staff group provided a very high level of care, were non-judgemental when she was sad to cooperate and understood that I needed their support too. The building is purpose-built, with spacious corridors and several sitting rooms, but in our situation, it was the quality of care that I considered the most important."

"My friend and I stayed next door to each other and brought our children up together and it is sad that she can no longer stay in her own house. I was glad to see she was happy and well cared for. Only being here for 1 hour and 15 minutes it was a very welcoming environment. All staff spoke to us and included my friend in introductions. Her room was spotless and there was no odour on the premises. She likes the food and has even been to a French lesson."

"My aunt is a resident and arrived a few months ago. In my few visits, I have seen cheery staff and clean rooms. I do not know as yet the full services provided. My aunt gets confused at times, I think she's settling in ok. To be honest, I have marked the ratings I know as I do not know all as yet. I do not know all the facilities as yet. Value for money is not my business as I am only a niece, direct family are dealing with this matter. Activities, I do not know as yet. Keep up the good work."

"I am extremely impressed by the range of activities offered by the activities workers. My own mother was in care in a different home and the activities were very mundane and uninteresting. I love how Barchester Four Hills Care Home tries to hang an activity on anything that is happening in the wilder world from International Chocolate Day to the Coronation to the Grand National. Small group activities outside seem perfect for some residents. The idea of having them ice skating blew my mind!"

"We are happy with my aunt's care at Barchester Four Hills Care Home. The only problem we have is that her clothes have gone missing in the laundry and we have spent a lot of money replacing them."

"Security is better as the main door now locked and have to have a code! Activities - could be more of them and to keep to the calendar. (Mostly cancelled - changes or my mother-in-law isn't involved). Yes, she has vascular dementia but she loves company! Feel the staff in the lounge should involve themselves more with the residents. Most of the time they are sitting watching rubbish TV whereas they could get involved in wee games/chats/talks."

"My father has been in Barchester Four Hills Care Home for a few months now. Within the unit, he has established great relationships with most workers, especially four members of staff, in particular, who are led by the unit lead. These members of staff seem to go the 'extra mile' to ensure the needs of my father are met. Such dedication gives my brother and I peace of mind concerning my father's well-being."

"As a family, we are very happy with the care our relative has received. She is settled and seems happy. The carers are all lovely and friendly and we feel welcome. Our only complaint relates to the laundry. Dozens and dozens of items of clothing are missing. We cannot afford to keep replacing these missing items. We regularly see her wearing ill-fitting clothes that are not hers. This is unacceptable as she has always taken pride in her appearance and has lots of lovely clothes that are now missing."

"My friend finds herself confined to her room, which, to be fair is looked after by the staff. Her conversation can be quite poor and I know that the staff try hard to talk to her, which is a very good point. On my weekly visits, I'm always well-treated and have no problems speaking with the staff."

"My brother came to Four Hills on the 31st August 2023, after 8 weeks in hospital. He had lost his appetite and his ability to hold a knife and fork and was rather despondent. However, when I visited him two days later he was sitting up, fully dressed, looking very happy and contented and when I asked staff if he was managing to eat anything, I was told 'everything that's put in front of him'. I couldn't believe it. Needless to say, he has quickly regained weight. As a family, this has made us all extremely relieved to see our brother so settled and content. We are really grateful to all the staff at Four Hills and appreciate everything they do, I find them very friendly, caring and attentive."

"My dad was in this care home for 10 months and his care was excellent all the staff are so caring and friendly. No one passes by without saying hello. He had dementia and was difficult at times but was treated with empathy and patience, especially by his carer. He had a lovely room and was well cared for. My dad sadly passed away this month peacefully and was treated with respect. I cannot recommend this care home highly enough."
