Activites at Glenroyd Care Home
Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.
Here at the Glenroyd our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. Everyone is different and gets pleasure from different things and here at Glenroyd we understand that and therefore try to provide a programme of activity that is tailored to individuals needs. We do this by gathering information and life history work and using that information to feed into our activities schedule. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Agata Prendota
Activities Coordinator
Hi, my name is Agata Prendota and I am the activities coordinator here at Glenroyd. I have worked at Glenroyd since 2014 and in April 2022 transferred to activities. I developed a strong relationship with many of our residents and their families. This has helped me to create a tailored activities program focused on maximizing everyone’s wellbeing, independence, and social engagement.
It is my goal to create a stimulating environment that enables to provide imaginative, fun, and motivational activities that suit every interest and ability. My infectious enthusiasm and creative approach are the key to inspire our residents and staff to get involved in activities both within the home and in the local community.
I am passionate about my role and especially the challenge of coming up with new ways to engage as many residents as possible in daily activities.
Celebrating life at Glenroyd Care Home
Greek Themed Cruise
The residents set sail with Glenroyd Cruise Lines to celebrate Greek Independence Day! Captain Debbie warmly welcomed everyone aboard, ensuring all passports and tickets were in order for our Greek adventure.
Our dedicated cruise team went all out to create a Greek-themed experience. Residents received personalised passports, ship tickets, and each table featured placemats with maps of our journey and a heartfelt welcome message.
We started with a delicious themed lunch crafted by our amazing hospitality team: hortosoupa, horiatiki salad, and chicken gyros, followed by homemade baklava or sponge and custard.
As we sailed, we sang along to ’Sailing’ by Rod Stewart, virtually exploring Greece's stunning islands and beaches. Residents enjoyed learning about Greek culture with activity books from Oomph on Demand while listening to Greek music.
Captain Debbie made sure everyone enjoyed the views from their cabins, while our very own Greek goddess, Karen, shared stories of Greece's rich culture.
Ena, one of our cherished residents, shared: ‘I've visited Greece many times, and Crete is my favourite island. Thank you for bringing back these lovely memories of my travels with my husband. It truly means a lot!’
Here's to many more adventures as we relive old memories and create new ones with our ‘Around the World’ project.
St. Patrick's Day
Staff and residents came together to celebrate St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, with a festive themed party.
We delved into the history of St. Patrick’s Day, which has been celebrated for over a thousand years, originally as a religious feast and now as a vibrant celebration of Irish culture around the world.
Our afternoon was filled with learning and fun as we tested our knowledge with a themed quiz. Then, the sounds of Irish music filled the room, getting everyone dancing and singing along. Although our residents prefer wine over whiskey or Irish beer, we all raised a glass to the festivities.
A special shutout to Margaret, one of our dedicated care assistants, who brought the spirit of Ireland to life with an impressive Irish dance performance! The applause was well-deserved.
Rita, one of our beloved residents, perfectly summed up the day: "Thank you for giving us the best time. I thoroughly enjoyed every second of it."
Happy St. Patrick's Day to all!
World Book Day
What a fantastic World Book Day we had at Glenroyd! We were thrilled to welcome the children from West Park Kindergarten for an afternoon of storytelling and fun. Our beloved Betty got into the spirit by dressing up as an Oompa Loompa, bringing smiles to everyone’s faces.
Reading has so many wonderful benefits, from sparking imagination to keeping our minds sharp. Many of our residents are passionate book lovers, and it was a joy to reminisce about our favourite childhood stories. The children proudly showed off their costumes and shared the tales behind them.
James was a hit with his playful antics, and we all joined in for a lively rendition of the ‘Hokey Cokey’. It was a delightful day celebrating the magic of books and the joy of connecting across generations.
Pancake Day
In celebration of Shrove Tuesday, a tradition that dates back centuries, we gathered to mix up batter and flip pancakes all afternoon. Historically, Pancake Day was a way to use up rich ingredients like eggs and sugar before the fasting of Lent began.
Our staff and residents spent the afternoon mixing up batter and flipping pancakes to perfection. It was wonderful to hear everyone sharing their favourite toppings, from classic syrup to more adventurous choices. We even had a fun themed quiz to test our pancake knowledge!
The highlight, of course, was enjoying those scrumptious pancakes, with the clear winner being the delightful combo of lemon and sugar topped with whipped cream.
Everyone had a great time celebrating one of the best days of the year, and we can’t wait to do it all again next time!
Valentine's Day Celebrations
Glenroyd was filled with flowers, cards and sweets in celebration of St Valentine’s Day.
Our residents had a delightful time participating in a Virtual Valentine's Day Treat Decorating event, hosted by Barchester Healthcare's Senior Head Chef! They rolled up their sleeves and got creative with cookie decorating, making delicious treats to share with others. James, one of our residents, just couldn’t resist trying one of his masterpieces!
We also enjoyed a wonderful party with live music from the talented Rebecca, who transformed our home into a land of love with her beautiful repertoire. Our residents danced and sang along to some of their favourite tunes, filling the afternoon with smiles and joy.
General Manager, Yvonne Hand, said: “We’ve all had a lovely day decorating the home and making gifts for each other and for our loved ones. Lots of our residents were able to see their loved ones either in person or via video call. We’ve had a whole range of treats and Valentine’s themed fun and we have enjoyed every moment of it!”
Showtown Blackpool Museum
What an incredible day we had at Showtown Blackpool! Our residents were treated to an unforgettable experience at this brand-new, side-tickling, eye-popping, toe-tapping, mind-boggling museum right in the heart of Blackpool.
With the amazing Billy as our guide, we explored the vibrant world of entertainers who made Blackpool famous. From comedians to acrobats, we were immersed in the rich history and spirit of this iconic town.
Our residents travelled back in time, enjoying an animated journey through Blackpool's history on a giant screen. They learned fascinating facts about Punch and Judy, and even got to try on circus outfits - Barbara bravely walked the tightrope!
We discovered the secrets of success with a fun button-pushing activity that revealed insights reflecting our residents' personalities perfectly. We also stepped into the infinity room for a breath-taking fireworks display, counting down from 10 to 1 to start the show. It was a dazzling festival of colours!
Mary summed it up perfectly: “Oh, it was brilliant! I thoroughly enjoyed it. What an amazing experience, thank you for taking me. I’ve had the best morning!”
A huge thank you to the wonderful staff at Showtown Blackpool for their warm hospitality and support. We can’t wait to visit again!
Around The World
We’re happy to announce our "Around the World" project, where our residents will embark on virtual journeys each month to explore the rich cultures, delicious foods, and fascinating facts of different countries. It's all about reliving cherished memories and creating new ones!
Our first stop was Australia to celebrate Australia Day. We virtually explored famous landmarks, and resident Dorothy shared: "I visited Australia many times - my son lives there. It's truly a beautiful place!" Everyone enjoyed fun trivia and a themed quiz.
Next, we celebrated the Chinese New Year with a virtual visit to China. Our residents enjoyed a delicious Chinese lunch and watched the stunning lantern festivals. Afterward, they raised a glass of wine and immersed themselves in Chinese culture. Some created colourful dragon art, while others discovered new facts about this incredible country. The music was a hit, with everyone tapping along and commenting on its beauty. Glenis, one of our residents, said: “What a lovely experience! I’ve never been to China, but it felt like we just stepped off the plane. Such a beautiful country!”
The Activities Team with a hat trick of achievements
This month, we celebrated National Activities Professional Providers Week with a heartfelt surprise for our incredible stars, Karen and Aga. These amazing ‘pink ladies’ received certificates and flowers to honour their outstanding contributions to our life enrichment program. They consistently go above and beyond to deliver person centred care, engaging not just our residents but also their families in the fun.
Our Senior Regional Director Lorraine presented them with a list of compliments, and General Manager Yvonne expressed her gratitude, saying: ‘You are such a wonderful team, bringing joy every day with your person- centred care for our residents. Thank you for everything you do.’
Residents joined the celebration, expressing their appreciation for having such remarkable individuals in their lives.
Aga, our Activities Coordinator, marked her 10-year service milestone during Activities Providers Week. She received a Costa Coffee voucher - perfect for her love of coffee - as well as flowers from General Manager Yvonne and the Senior Regional Director Lorraine, recognising her dedication to the Glenroyd family. Aga’s heart-warming support for residents, families, and colleagues makes her a cherished team member and an inspiration to us all. As Senior Regional Director Lorraine stated, ‘Aga is a true star, and we are so lucky to have her in our lives. She’s the heart of Glenroyd.’ Aga was also nominated for December Employee of the Month for her efforts in creating a magical Christmas atmosphere. Her thoughtful, person- centred activities and carefully chosen gifts created unforgettable memories for everyone.
Here’s to more wonderful moments ahead, captured by our fantastic activities team!
International Flower Day
What a delightful day we've had! Our residents started off the day with a fun and educational flower-themed quiz, where we all learned new and interesting facts about flowers. Sharing stories about our favourite blooms brought back cherished memories and sparked lively conversations.
Later, we dived into a relaxing flower arranging session. Surrounded by a variety of fresh flowers and with calming music in the background, our residents were transported to the gardens of their past. Flower arranging and sensory therapy offer numerous benefits, such as reducing stress, enhancing mood, and stimulating the senses. It was a beautiful way to connect with nature and each other.
We wrapped up this floral extravaganza by gathering in the lounge to watch a documentary on the world's most beautiful gardens. The breath taking landscapes and vibrant colours left us all inspired.
It was a wonderful day filled with the enchanting scents of flowers, delightful company, and heartfelt reminiscing. Here's to more days like this, where we celebrate the simple joys and beauty of life together!
