What our families say on carehome.co.uk

"My mother was still poorly on arrival to Harper Fields. The care from the Nurses care manager, carers, Ancilliary staff then and subsequently, have improved my mothers quality of life. The staff treat everyone as an individual, with respect and patience. The personal care and hygiene is a credit to the staff. Even on the busiest of days the Residents are calm and give time. Attention to detail is excellent."

"I spent 3 weeks at Harper Fields recuperating from a fall and surgery. The staff were absolutely excellent, kind and caring - nothing was too much trouble for them. The room was comfortable, but there was an ongoing problem with no hot water in the bathroom which was not resolved during my stay. The food was very disappointing - bland and lacking in variation. This was a shame given how excellent and dedicated the staff are."

"Very caring, keen, but not much activity due to lockdown and the easter bank holiday. The room was clean and modern. The food, there was a good choice each day."

"Barchester Harper Fields always go out of their way to offer a personal and caring relationship to my aunty. It's lovely to see her loved as I love her. It means so much when you are unable to take care of them yourself."

"Harper Fields provide great care for my mom. The care staff are golden and the receptionists are helpful and do their best to advise, guide us concerning the situation we have not got to cope with due to our mother's dementia, meaning she must remain in a care home. Our worries are now that will we be able to meet the fees in the future as we dearly want our mom to remain where we know she is safe and secure."

"Following a knee replacement, I needed care home help for 2 weeks whilst I regained sufficient mobility to look after myself. I chose Barchester Harper Fields because of its convenient location and previous contact with a resident. Every facility and service I required was provided with friendly care and consideration, but my lasting impression was the high level of understanding and support offered to those residents who needed long term care and suffered medical and mental problem which were unlikely to improve."

"The home's ethos is one of care. All the general managers are qualified nurses by profession, which means that the resident's needs are understood and prioritised. This filters down through the care home and is apparent in all aspects. Facilities are first class with comfortable TV longes, social dining rooms, a coffee lounge and even a hairdressing salon. The atmosphere is full of kindness, happiness and care, and my mum feels happy, safe and at home. Residents relax and freely interact, even visitors don't want to leave! The food is excellent, with varied choices and menus at all mealtimes. Residents normally eat in the dining room, which encourages them to eat more, but they have the option of dining in their bedroom if they prefer to do so that day. Mum's ensuite bedroom is clean and tidy and of a good size with everything you need on hand. The staff are extremely kind and helpful, nothing is too much trouble. Events and entertaining are organised on a regular basis, now Covid restrictions are being eased. Overall, the home couldn't be any better, so thank you all so much for looking after my mum so well."

""Hurrah" for Barchester Harper Fields, of many I have researched this was definitely the best one. The lovely, helpful and friendly staff always with a pleasant smile and happy. My friend is looked after so well and is now settled and happy. He loves all the activities especially the concerts and singing. I will always recommend this home to anyone"

"I have just had 3 weeks of Respite care at Harper fields, Kempton unit, my second time here. I will definitely be back again. During a very difficult time of a Covid outbreak in other units, which caused a lot of disruption restricting movement within the home. All the regular staff are brilliant. Residents are nice and friendly and welcoming to all new residents. Barchester are very lucky to have these staff representing the home, as the agency staff that have had to cover for covid sickness are hit and miss in comparison to the regular staff, but essential in these difficult times. Highly recommended for the care of all that need it. Take some time to check it out."

"My gran has early-onset dementia and has recently moved from a residential ward to memory lane. All the staff have been tremendous and have made the planning, the moving and the settling down as easy as can be. My gran continues to praise the staff and facilities and she is happy and comfortable. I am happy that she receives excellent care in a safe and welcoming environment. Well done all."

"On Sunday, I attended a Jubilee celebration dinner with my mother arranged by the activities coordinator at the care home. The atmosphere was fantastic; the residents were all engaged with the entertainment, and the chefs, care staff, and volunteers worked tirelessly to look after the residents and their guests. I have no idea how the chefs managed to serve hot food to so many in a marquee, and they even made me a special vegan meal. Having a family member present for the Jubilee celebration meal made it more special for my mum and a memorable occasion for myself. Thank you, Barchester Harper Fields, for a truly treasured day to remember with my 96-year-old mum."

"Dad moved to Harper Fields in November 21 after his previous home was struggling to meet his needs. Whilst Dad was in the hospital, we viewed many homes, but something about Harper Fields stood out, and we knew we wanted Dad to be part of the community here. I am always kept up to date regarding my dad. The staff were fabulous getting him settled in. My dad can be quite a tricky character, and the staff are great at diverting his attention. All the staff at Harper Fields, management, nurses, carers, maintenance and more, seem to know the names of all the residents, and they always take the time to acknowledge and speak to my dad, which I can see makes him feel special. Dad's weight has become a concern over the last few weeks, and the nurse has kept me updated with a plan to manage it. It’s lovely to visit the unit, as the staff know me by name, and I equally have gotten to know some of the other residents. It’s a lovely family/community, and the events that are held are wonderful for all. A big thanks"

"Our dad has settled in really well at this care home after needing to move him from his last place, as they could not meet his needs. When I visit, I always find the staff most pleasant, and they all know my dad's name. To me, it feels like they’ve made the effort to know him. I’ve sat back and relaxed and thought about the review that I’m giving. The reason I can sit back and relax is I know my dad is at this home being looked after so much better than in his last care home, where my sister and I were in constant worry."

"From visiting Harper Fields to see if this was the right place for our dad to the present time, I have only experienced the utmost care and attention. Dad has thrived and felt safe here. The staff are well trained in the care of dementia patients and so supportive of all family members. Thank you to all of the staff members at Harper Fields"

"I would like to express my gratitude for all the care and kindness provided by Barchester Harper Fields Care Home. The care is above and beyond expectations, and the kindness they show to my grandma, we will forever be grateful for. All the staff has made Grandma feel that welcome from the moment she moved in and very happy there to the point she calls it home. The nursing home should be acknowledged for all the hard work and individual care shown to each resident. Highly recommended."

"My mum suffers from dementia and moved into Harper Fields Care Home in early summer, 2022. After looking at several other care homes first, we knew Harper Fields was the perfect place for Mum the moment we stepped through the front door. Every member of staff was so welcoming and all Mum's fears of care homes disappeared from the first day. We saw an incredible transformation in her in just the first week of her being there. As Mum is medium-stage dementia the staff felt she would be best in the residential area called Kempton. Mum has been so happy, so well cared for and so entertained! She enjoys all of the activities and walks around the beautiful site. She has a lovely room and the facilities are so clean. Most of all, the Kempton staff are absolutely wonderful - so approachable, caring and friendly. For the family, myself, my brother and sister - we no longer need to worry about our mum - we know she is happy and well cared for - we can't recommend Harpers highly enough."

"On the whole our experience has been fairly satisfactory. I think there are issues where I believe staff should intervene to secure a more satisfactory outcome for the resident, such as washing, showering, etc., but this is not always done because of the rigid non-interventionist policy if assistance is declined. This means that the resident may be late in rising and perhaps missing out on a meal, or some other signal moment in the day. There could be more emphasis on activities and stimulation, but I appreciate that this can be challenging and difficult. Sometimes the resident's clothes are not always their own and this can be a little disconcerting too. I genuinely believe some staff are better than others, but I suppose this criticism could apply to any organisation or institution. Everywhere is kept clean and tidy considering the type of resident being cared for. I cannot give an absolutely glowing review as I think there are certain areas requiring further improvement."

"I'm so glad Mum is here. The staff are all so kind and whenever I visit they make me really welcome, however busy they are. The whole ethos of the home is led from the top down and is so professional. They combine love and care with clinical excellence, in a way which reassures me so much, I have no worries about Mum. Mum is so happy here and always so happy to tell me about what she's done when I go and visit her. Thank you to each and every one of you."

"Mum has been a resident for nine months now, I come in every day to help out with dinner, so I get to know the ladies and gents quite well. All the staff are lovely and make it easy for me to be around, I don't ever feel like I'm in the way. I have no concerns about Mum's care needs as I can see they are all met, from washing to feeding to the nursing side as well. I came in last week and was asked to speak to a guy from the local authority who was doing an assessment, by the time I came out, the staff had been into Mum and sorted her dinner for me, this sums up for me what the staff are all like. So it's a big thank you from me for all the hard work."

"My husband has been a resident of the Warwick Unit for five months. He has settled well and all his visitors say what a lovely, friendly and bright atmosphere is present throughout the home. His increasing care needs are continually met with kindness, compassion and care. The staff at Warwick Unit do all they can to help keep him safe, well and happy and we are happy that we chose this home for him."

"My mum has been at Barchester Harper Fields for just under two months. She has settled in well. The place is lovely and well-kept. The staff are amazing and are very attentive. "New decorations are very nice. My mum enjoys the spa bath. I feel that the menu is very repetitive and vegetarian choices are poor. I would question the nutritional value of items such as "courgette gratin" and ratatouille, alongside mushroom stroganoff or mixed vegetable casserole. The entertainment, even taking into account the lack of an entertainment leader, has been very poor. Walks around the grounds is dependent on the weather and numbers limited. There are not many occasions when wheelchair users are taken out. Room visits and pamper sessions are also restricted by staff availability and resources."

"Exceeds my expectations as a care home since coming here in March 2024. Staff, generally, are very good however sometimes communication is not the best. Sometimes, I feel my care is rushed (shower, personal care) but realise everyone is under pressure, sometimes short-staffed."

"Mum came to Barchester Harper Fields as respite care. She has terminal cancer and was finding it hard to cope at home on her own. She found it hard to adjust at first but did adjust and began to get involved in care home life. Mum is not too keen on the food as it has deteriorated since she came here, she only likes a soft diet and there is inconsistency in the quality. Communication has been patchy at times and Mum's care has been affected by this. I do feel Mum is safe and on the whole, well looked after. Consistency with staff has also been an issue."

"My experience of Barchester Harper Fields has been excellent. My mother was very distressed in her previous home. Sadly, I think this was down to one individual who seemed to bully staff and residents alike. There is a completely different culture at Barchester and particularly at Epsom Suites. The care, warmth and compassion is outstanding. Thank you."

"My mother has been in the care home for six months and in that time she has experienced incredibly high-quality care. The staff are always polite and friendly, despite the fact that my mother can be quite rude to them due to her dementia. There is always someone on hand. There is a range of activities taking place each day which gets my mother out of her room and allows her to socialise and I know that she really enjoys the activities. The care home has a really happy atmosphere and I have no worries at all about leaving my mother there as I know she’s in good hands. And I wouldn't put her in any other care home."

"After having a very close relationship with my mother I was very upset that after 3 years of living with my family, Mom needed to go into a home. From the very first visit to have a look around I was put at ease. I could not believe how beautiful, welcoming and friendly everyone and everything was. The care to both Mom and myself and my family was outstanding. I cannot thank everyone enough. They all helped me through so much pain, there are not enough words, an enormous thank you."

"The warmth of Harper Fields greets you at the door. From the welcoming smile of the receptionist to the carers and nurse's attention to detail, level of respect and obvious dedication to their charges, to the activities coordinators who work tirelessly to ensure there is a varied programme of events for the residents to enjoy, to the talented chefs who know each guest by name, to the maintenance guys who cheerfully keep the home looking immaculate, to the cleaning and laundry staff who take the time to care and last but not least, the management team that has a “nothing is too much trouble” approach. My friend has been there for two years now and has flourished whilst in the very special atmosphere that is Harper Fields."

"Another great day at Barchester Harper Fields Care Home with their annual Summer Fete. Congratulations to the manager for flawless organisation. Sadly, the weather chose not to co-operate so the event was held indoors. Plenty of stalls selling clothes, bric-a-brac, drinks - both alcoholic (by donation only) and non-alcoholic, cakes and some pretty good pulled pork baps whilst a model train stall made me yearn for my old train set. For entertainment, there was a very good country and western band whose repartee included an exceptional rendition of 'duelling banjos' on electric guitar and woodwind instruments. Participation was pleasingly very good from both residents and guest and I believe that everyone enjoyed themselves. I understand a dog show is scheduled towards the end of August so look out for further details and get the doggy shampoo ready."

"Our dad suffers from dementia and we wanted him to be cared for by people who understand the condition and are responsive to his needs. My sisters and brother have found Barchester Harper Fields Care Home to be just that place. We have worked with staff to discuss his needs and make adjustments to how we all respond and look after him. The staff have been caring and considerate, not just of Dad but of how they treat the wider family. We have a ‘go to’ member of staff that we discuss any concerns with, and this has helped as Dad’s condition alters. As a family, we have peace of mind that the quality of Dad’s life is the best it can be. We have nothing but praise for the patience and care of the staff at the home."

"We are very impressed with the current changes taking place at Harper Fields Care Home and the nursing unit in Balsall Common. The nursing unit is being split into two units, enabling the nurses more time with each patient. All the staff are lovely, from the receptionists, carers, nurses and manager; even the gardeners call in for a quick chat with Dad, which he loves. The care is very good, and Dad loves the food. The entertainment organised for the residents is 1st class too. We couldn’t be happier!"

"I would just like to say a big thank you to all the staff who worked on Christmas Day and looked after my mother-in-law and her cousin who came for the day and enjoyed Christmas dinner together. This is something that they had done together for many years prior and means a lot to them both. They said the dinner was lovely and so much of it and that one staff member, in particular, was wonderful looking after them and they had a fabulous time. Thank you. I would also like to say that all the staff are amazing in what they do and that without them we would be lost, they are there not only for my mother-in-law but also for us and nothing is ever too much trouble and they always go the extra mile. Thank you"

"Large change of staff in the last month. Some experienced staff have gone, some new carers have difficulty speaking English and understanding menus. Gives the impression that the initial staff selection and training is not good enough. Long-standing activities person now gone, new person is making a good start. Hope minibus trips resume and weekly entertainments re-start. Feel reassured by talking about safety and security."
