Activities at Henford House Care Home

Our Activities Coordinators are constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we support by organising group and individual activities for anyone and everyone to participate in, as well as visits from PAT dogs, musicians and entertainers. We also host evenings such as our cheese & wine nights, pub evening, quiz nights and special occasions such as, Guy Fawkes, Easter and Christmas where we like to encourage relatives to come to. Activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, so it is essential that our team are dedicated to ensuring that residents are entertained, and that life at Henford House is fun and active.

Debbie Phillips

Activities Coordinator

I joined Henford House in March 2014; after five and a half years of domiciliary care, this position became available at Henford and I decided that it would be great to do more of the fun things in life with residents! It is great here at the home; we get along so well and truly have some laughs. Residents have a wide range of activities to participate in each week, including armchair exercises, bingo sessions, singalongs, musical entertainment, pottery, manicures, celebrations and much more. It is very rewarding knowing that people are grateful for the work I've done when I go. Working here has also given me the opportunity to gain my Level 2 NAPA certificate.

Pets at Therapy

Pets at Therapy

Pat Randall is a member of Pets as Therapy, which is a charity that recognises the importance of interaction between people and animals. Pat’s visits stimulate memories of the residents' former pets.

The residents really enjoy her visits and I think PAT dog Maddie enjoys all the attention she gets too!

New Year's

Residents of Henford celebrated New Year’s Eve with a good old fashioned sing along with Jim Gallagher on the guitar and plenty of refreshments to go around.

They then went on to celebrate New Year’s Day with a traditional three-course roast beef lunch with all the trimmings, and Buck's Fizz, followed by party games in the lounge, which where organised by Activities Coordinator, Debbie, and volunteer, Linda.

Volunteer Appreciation

Volunteer Appreciation

We at Henford are very lucky to have such wonderful volunteers. They give up their own time just for residents. To show our appreciation, we treated them to a Christmas lunch with all the trimmings, which was cooked by chefs, Lorelle and June. It was a lovely afternoon.

Mr. & Mrs. Claus

Mr. & Mrs. Christmas and one of their elf helpers came to see the residents at Henford House. They were in wonderful Victorian costumes, which brought great memories back for residents. Joy and laughter filled the lounge as our visitors spoke with residents whilst enjoying sherry and mince pies.

The Rock Choir

The Rock Choir

The amazing sounds of The Rock Choir were glorious; it's a shame they had to move on to their next venue. Residents, staff and loved ones sang along to all the various song renditions, along with the ever-familiar Christmas Carols. It was a lovely afternoon!

Gardening Club

Residents at Henford enjoyed taking part in our gardening club. They spent time planting up the winter baskets with bulbs and pansies. Concentration was the key!

They listened intently to our Gardener, Katherine, who was describing what the baskets would look like once everything has flowered.
