Activities at Highview House Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.
Aiden Wylie
Hello, my name is Aiden Wylie, and I am Head Activities Coordinator here at Highview House. My job is to ensure a mentally and physically challenging and varied calendar of activities. I want to involve all our residents in a warm and welcoming environment.
My career has been in education and I have lived in countries as diverse as Japan and Iraq, but in 2022 I came to Highview with the ambition of offering a range of activities, trips and entertainment which lead to lasting memories and experiences.

Life at Highview House Care Home
A day at the beach!
On the 4th August two of our residents enjoyed a day at Nairn beach, where they enjoyed a picnic lunch followed by refreshing ice cream. After lunch they enjoyed a little paddle in the sea, with carer, Helen testing the water first, this raised a lot of laughter watching Helen brave the cold water!
The day brought back some beautiful memories for our residents as it had been a long time since they had a paddle in the sea and everyone shared stories of their time spent at the beach and their favourite seaside resorts. It was a wonderful day for all!
Anyone for croquet?
Residents at Highview took advantage of the glorious sunshine to spend time in the homes garden and whilst outdoors enjoyed an afternoon of croquet, before tucking into a delicious afternoon tea especially prepared by the homes hospitality team accompanied with a glass of prosecco to toast their win! It was a wonderful way to spend the day.
Garden project with our gardening club
At the start of the year we decided make a small part of our garden into a vegetable plot. This enabled our residents to grow some of their favourite vegetables, as a lot of our residents loved gardening and even had their own allotments, our gardening club has proven to be a great success.
To make it accessible for those residents who require a wheelchair we called on the help of a local gentlemen who was kind enough to make us a raised bed, this would enable wheelchair users to also be able to plant and take care of the vegetables which they had planted.
As the months have gone on we have grown Shallot’s, Lettuce, Radishes’, Strawberries, Tomatoes and Peppers.
Some of our ladies have also planted some sunflowers which are now growing very tall and we or waiting for the sunflower to bloom.
We have had some fantastic weather over the past few weeks, this has enabled our residents to really enjoy their garden.
We are already planning what we are going to grow next.
Seaside show
Residents of Highview were delighted to welcome back vocalist, Katy-Louise who performed her seaside special show for our residents. We couldn't have picked a nicer day, the sun was shining and the residents were all looking forward to a good old sing song.
Some of the residents assisted with decorating the garden in a beach theme for the show. The Punch and Judy show also went down a treat bringing back some lovely memory's for our residents. Staff and residents had a wonderful afternoon.
History of Robots with the V&A
We enjoyed a wonderful virtual introduction to the world of robots with V&A Dundee Curator, Kirsty Hassard.
Kirsty talked us through the history of robots and their early beginnings, the presentation traced the fascination of all things wired and wonderful and considered what the future might hold for our relationship with a multitude of mechanical machines.
It was absolutely thrilling to learn what robots can do now and what they might be able to do in the future.
Blenheim Palace
We had a lovely time exploring the amazing gardens of Blenheim Palace through a virtual talk, hosted by the Historian - Antonia Keaney.
We enjoyed a virtual look at how the gardens at Blenheim have developed over the past 300 years - from the formality of Henry Wise through to the ‘natural’ landscape created by Capability Brown and beyond.
Everyone was very impressed by the many jewels hidden within the 150 acres of beautiful gardens.
