Reviews for Juniper House Care Home
What our families say on carehome.co.uk
"Barchester Juniper House is an outstanding home. My nan has been there for sixteen months now after only going in for two weeks rest, she absolutely loved it and wanted to make this her new home. All the staff are amazing, nothing is ever too much to ask from them. It's a very welcoming, clean and family feel to the home. Activities are always on and loads of different things for her to enjoy plus being taken out to local places. It's always lovely and clean when we visit and full of smiles from the staff. This definitely makes it easier to leave Nan in the best hands when we leave."

"Mum has been in Juniper now for a little over a year. The staff are very welcoming, cheery and approachable. They will always help with any concerns and keep families well informed. The standard of care is very good and individual needs are addressed. There are plenty of activities for residents to enjoy if they wish to, but privacy is also respected. The grounds are beautifully kept and the communal areas and residents rooms are always very clean. The food is very good and residents are frequently consulted for their likes and dislikes. We would like Mum to be taken out into the garden a little more often but appreciate that this can be difficult due to varying demands on staff."

"The care of Mum at Juniper is excellent. Cannot fault the staff for the very high level of care that is provided. All staff are kind and compassionate. Her needs and care requirements have increased since she became a resident 3 years ago and this has been managed extremely well. Communication from the staff is also extremely good. Mum is happy and content. I highly recommend Juniper to others."

"I cannot speak highly enough of the wonderful team who do an amazing job at Juniper House in Brackley. My mother is a long-term resident and during Covid, I have been blessed to know that she has had outstanding care whilst I have been unable to see her, apart from the occasional outdoor visit which was so much appreciated. I am kept informed of her situation and am able to speak to my mum (who has dementia) on the telephone which is always available when I call the home. Not only is the care excellent but the whole team show genuine kindness, warmth and compassion. The home is beautifully maintained both inside and out and feels homely, cosy and very clean, a criteria that is, of course, important to the residents but also for the visitors. Most of all, my mum is settled and happy there which is the best feeling for me. Thank you so much to everyone, you are doing a wonderful job keeping all the residents safe during the Covid outbreak."

"I have been impressed I must say with the care home Barchester Juniper House in which my mother-in-law now lives. The environment, especially the pretty and nicely sheltered inner garden area is excellent. Most charming, attentive, caring and efficient. Really good - highly to be recommended."

"My brother-in-law sadly had to go into Juniper House before he sadly passed away. The staff were amazing to him, his wife and all of the family. He had a young family and the staff went out of their way to make their visits as Happy as they could be. It is never easy when someone goes into a care home, but we will be forever grateful for the wonderful care you showed, it makes all the difference!!"

"My husband was a resident at Juniper House for 9 months until he sadly passed away. In my experience, all the staff were extremely welcoming and friendly. Not only did they support my husband through the last few months of his life but they supported myself and my family. I will always be eternally grateful to the staff at Juniper House."

"My husband's grandfather was moved to Juniper from being cared for full time by my mother-in-law which was a difficult move for her to make. The staff made the transition incredibly easy for him and provided a great service to enable him to spend his last days surrounded by his family. The staff facilitated us being with him for many hours and nothing was too much trouble offering us refreshments and comfort when we required it. Would recommend."

"As a resident, it has cost me a quarter of a million pounds in 3 years, plus I pay for my medication. I have not been satisfactorily cared for in the first 6 months especially! Appalling food, no choice, decisions made for me by a senior carer as not deemed capable! We have had no activities co-ordinator since January 2020 so life during Covid has not been good. Only terrestrial TV so a very 'locked in experience'. I shall never forget and as a result, frustration and low mood. Nothing to do all day!"

"Mum has been a resident at Juniper House for the last five years. Juniper House is a lovely home with a pretty enclosed garden. Since the new manager took over in 2019 the home has improved tremendously with a much-needed boost in staff morale. As a relative, this has been lovely to see as they are so hardworking and caring and deserve to be treated well and with respect. The various departments from carers, nurses and housekeeping through to kitchen staff, maintenance and management are friendly and welcoming whilst professional and dedicated in their individual roles. Juniper House feels like it now has its heart back and I would definitely recommend to anyone considering residential care."

"I would highly recommend anyone thinking of residential care accommodation to contact Barchester Juniper House. Apart from the welcoming ambiance of the home along with the decor and facilities, it's the manager of the home and the care team including kitchen staff who make this a home I would wish to be in should I ever need extra support in the years to come. I honestly can not praise them enough for the help and kindness shown. Thank you so much you are all amazing. Special thanks to the care home Manager, who clearly cares for her team and residents alike."

"My husband was a resident for 17 months until he sadly passed away in December 2019. The management team and all staff, in all areas, are caring, dedicated and very professional. I looked around many care homes before selecting Juniper House and not one of them was a close contender. Juniper House not only offers care and support to residents but also to family and visitors. The care shown to all our family was outstanding. I have no hesitation in recommending Juniper House as an outstanding care home."

"I visited my Dad at Juniper House. He has vascular dementia and Alzheimer's. I don't see him very often because I live far away and find it hard to see him and very emotional. The Activity Coordinator was great in supporting me on my latest visit. I emailed ahead to let her know I was coming. She made the visit easier and gave me loads of advice on how to deal with Dad's dementia. I also thought the craft activity was great and the lady who ran it was so calm and patient. Thanks for the support."

"A lovely, homely environment for my father. Lately, not great standards of management, although all issues have been addressed. I wouldn't say it's value for money - cleanliness, items going missing, laundry (items going missing). Most of the staff are very kind and caring."

"My aunt has blossomed physically and mentally since she moved to Juniper House. She has dementia and has steadily lost more of her memory, in the last two years but she is relaxed and content and I am sure this is because she feels safe and well cared for, she likes and trusts the lovely staff, and she is stimulated through joining in with the various activities at Juniper House and my taking her out regularly. All the staff in all the functions at the home seem to know every resident's name and take the trouble to get to know them. The benefit of this cannot be quantified on a balance sheet but I am convinced that it is central to the wellbeing of every resident and makes Juniper House stand out from other care homes. Every day brings many challenges for the staff, a resident is very difficult, there is a medical emergency or a relative complains (including me), but always the staff try to see and accept each resident as an individual and resolve the situation."

"The care for my husband has been good by carers, nurses and management. He had a difficult time prior to being here - in hospital and another care home. He has had exemplary care by one particular nurse. The only complaint I have is about the laundry facilities. Due to washing machines being broken clothes not turned around in time. He has more than sufficient items and sometimes is waiting for clothes from laundry. Needs to be updated by Barchester soon."

"It is always a pleasure to visit my Mother at Juniper House. As I live a distance away, my visits are not as frequent as I would like, but when I visit I always find a warm welcome from all the staff. The staff are always happy and helpful. The home and my mother's room is always clean, tidy and pleasant smelling. I thank you for taking care of my Mother in a sympathetic and caring nature. I sincerely appreciate it."

"My father-in-law has recently been admitted to Juniper House. We are extremely pleased with his care. We have had one or two teething problems, his dietary needs are little complicated and it has taken a little bit of work to get this up and running, but now his needs are well met and the general standard of the food is excellent. The home is kept very clean and my father in law is kept spotless. Having said all this the most important element to us is the standard of care he gets. The girls and very kind and empathetic towards him, we find this very touching. Any problems re pain relief are responded to and dealt with quickly. Any concerns we raise are taken seriously and acted upon. We are very pleased."

"My wife spent a week at Juniper House this was the first time she had been in a care home. The first time we met the staff I thought this is a care home my wife would be cared for the way I would want, We were shown her bedroom which was bright and spotless with a large wet room. I was invited to stay for lunch with my wife and found the food very good, The family and friends came to see her that week and they all said she looked very happy and relaxed. When I picked her up all her clothes had been washed and she was smiling and looked happy. I can recommend Juniper House to anyone and thank all the staff for looking after my wife so well."

"Moving a loved one into care has got to be the most difficult of decisions. However this transition has been made so much easier by the overwhelming support received from the staff at Juniper House. From the start, myself and my husband have been made to feel very welcome by all members of staff, whatever their role. Only today, a young carer explained she had read up on my husband’s rare condition because it was important to her to know more about it, so that she could give him the best possible care. I was really touched by this. The food is varied and nutritious and care is taken to ensure resident’s preferences are offered. Activities are plentiful and residents are encouraged to join in and assisted where needed. I am so impressed with everything and this gives me great peace of mind at this difficult time."

"I have never heard a cross or unkind word in two years. Clean... given to residents - excellent. Also applies to needed dressings - never neglected. Would recommend Juniper whole heartedly. Ups and downs due to the world of today. Below is a poem (by me) - says it all. Making the Best of Care in Juniper House We are in care but do not fret, happiness in store for us yet We are all good friends I am glad to say, to be nice to each other is Juniper's way Our carers look after us and are oh-so-kind, sweeter girls you will never find Not forgetting and must not miss, a young new carer - makes life bliss They attend to our needs with such dedication, deserving from us some appreciation As this I end I have to say included in Junipers special way Doctors, nurses and all we employ bring to the residents friendship and joy."

"My wife has had an interesting and positive life particularly acting and singing. In her 70's she started suffering from dementia which is difficult for husband and wife after 50 years together. I obviously wish for my wife to have her last years in a happy environment where she is well looked after. I believe the staff at Barchester Juniper House are giving my wife the most professional care."

"My mother has been a resident for six months. During that time staff turnover has been high, and the quality of food has turned out to be disappointing. However, the nursing care has been constant with occasional GP visits, her tablets have been - in the main - organised. My mum gets confused with the constant change of carers, and often feels she is 'left til last'. Lately I have been surprised to receive an increase in rates - without prior notification - and it is increasingly difficult to speak to someone about an explanation for this..."

"This could be difficult, there are so many good things about Barchester Juniper House. Where do I start ? It must be the staff. When I walk in I am always greeted with a smile and "How are you ?" At Christmas this year my wife will have been with Barchester four years. Over that time her health has deteriorated very slowly. I marvel how staff are able to cope with residents who want something now. The home has an air of goodwill everywhere. I never see areas that need cleaning, the staff are already working at those areas. The kitchen staff know what each resident likes to eat. Top class food. Residents always look clean and are dressed. There is always an opportunity for residents to have an activity. "Would you like to have a walk round the garden" Most residents will say yes, and off they go. There is always a quiet place you can go. I take my wife around the garden, she is wheelchair bound. Once again I compliment the staff on the upkeep of the garden. What more can I say?"

"My mother suffers from Alzheimer's and has been a resident for twelve months at Barchester Juniper House. In spite of the difficult process of moving from her family home, Mum was able to settle in quite quickly, which I'm sure was helped by being able to have some of her own furniture in her room enabling continued familiarity with her surroundings. She is always cheerful when I visit and has maintained her positive, happy demeanour. The staff are welcoming and happy to chat to Mum and I when we are in the coffee lounge. There are regular activities available which Mum enjoys, both from taking part in, and also from the social aspect, mixing with other residents."

"All staff are really helpful, caring and friendly. Nothing seems to be any trouble if you need their help. For the past few months the smell, especially upstairs, has a lot to be desired but have been informed it is being rectified as it was the carpets being urinated on. Pity it wasn't rectified sooner. Mum had wet the bed but it had not been seen to by the afternoon but was done when I asked. Mum also smelt of stale urine a few days later and I noted she was still wearing the same skirt as the day of the wet bed. There are crumbs under the cushion on the chair and bits of rubbish behind furniture. Laundry items although named go missing yet is often left with other residents. I feel overall the service is good but more staff are required and less agency staff would solve the problem."

"Treated with compassion, both resident and family. Genuinely caring staff. Rooms clean and very acceptable. More activities could be provided. "How wonderful to be able to drop in at any time to share a cup of tea and delicious piece of cake with my Aunt. The staff are so patient with her and friends even even when she is feeling cross. The only thing I would like to improve is to have time to discuss with carers/nurses how she is getting on."
