Activities at Lethen Park Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Amanda McCarthy

Activities Coordinator

We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within the home and we work together to give residents the best possible experience. We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centered program of events and activities. Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents and their families and friends

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Life at Lethen Park Care Home

Homes join 100th virtual event

Barchester care homes and hospitals nationwide linked together for a fantastic quiz in celebration of Barchester’s 100th live virtual event.

Residents engaged in a variety of questions ranging from historical trivia to visual puzzles and brainteasers.

Everyone who joined had a fantastic time and enjoyed some friendly competition.

Namaste

Residents have been enjoying our namaste sensory room, spending time gaining a greater sense of calm and connect to their inner chakra.

We have had a sensory projector installed and along with water fall speakers created a wonderful meditation zone for all to enjoy

Making small steps

Over the last few months, we have supported Thomas in building his confidence following a hospital stay.  During this time Thomas has been making steady progress with small steps from spending time in the lounge to the homes garden until he felt able to enjoy a visit to local pub, The Paddock with activities coordinator, Amanda where they chatted and enjoyed each other’s company and Thomas sipping a pint of cider, his first of the year!

Delight with home grown potatoes

Resident Davie loves spending time out in the garden and has been working hard over the last few months where he has been busy planting and harvesting potatoes, watering them and keeping a close eye on their progress.

We know how hard it can be growing vegetables and we are delighted Davie has achieved excellence with his crop.  Now they have been harvested they have been given to our chef to serve with lashings of butter and salt!

David has a new sense of independence

David often gets a great urge to go a long walk however often feels that his zimmer was not safe enough for the unsteady paths of Portlethen. His family newly invested in a Wheelchair for David meaning that he was not limited to short walks with his zimmer.

On resident of the day Amanda and Davie took his brand new chair out for its first big walk. David and Amanda went a 10km walk around Portlethen. David was very happy to be out in the community and experiencing everyday life with Amanda.

On their walk they went to the post office and posted a letter to his friends from Elgin, They also went to the local Park and then ended the Walk at Amanda’s blue van called Delilah.

Amanda and Davie shared a cup of tea from the back of the van, David had a brilliant resident of the day with Amanda and felt so happy and full of Joy.

David’s walks and independence will grow and David is looking forward to his next BIG walk with Amanda.

Mary's Day!

Mary really enjoyed her resident of the day experience here at Lethen Park. Mary and Amanda spent time in the garden looking at all the flowers. Mary really enjoyed the tout of the garden and was very happy to have fresh air. During this time Amanda and Mary had listened to Music and had a beautiful chat about the tatties, the purple Iruses and then reminisced about her garden and years gone by.

Once we left the garden Amanda extended the experience and gave Mary a luxurious manicure and then painted her nails a beautiful shade of pale pink.

Mary had a very pleasant experience and enjoyed the time with Amanda. Mary and Amanda look forward to spending another 1-1 together very soon.
