Activities at Marple Dale Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Lewis Timperley

Activities Team Lead

Hi, my name is Lewis. I joined the team in September 2021 as a general assistant and then moved to the activities team in January 2022. Most recently I became Activities Team Leader in December 2023, it has been a great journey here at Marple Dale and can’t wait to continue. I love my role as one of the homes Activity Coordinators, and love finding out new and exciting ways to engage residents with activities and each other.

Here at Marple Dale we try to do as many different activities as we can, to keep our residents as active as possible, as it is so important to keep active. I love what I do and love knowing that our residents have so much enjoyment from such a wide variety of activities.

Looking back on Chinese New Year. Year of the Rabbit.

The Friday before New Year’s Day we took a trip to Wing Yip superstore. We enjoyed a lovely meal in their restaurant, Sarah said that this was the first time she had been to a Chinese restaurant. After our meal we went around their superstore and got ingredients for our chef to make traditional Chinese food for New Year’s Day.

Giant Scrabble

Here at Marple dale we like to keep our brains active. Everyone loves playing giant scrabble where we break up into teams. Half way through we stop and enjoy a tea break. Residents always look forward to, and enjoy this activity. We're already looking forward to our next game!

Virtual event with Royal Parks

Across our services our residents have enjoyed a wonderful live virtual talk about starlings, one of the UK’s most gregarious birds, hosted by Rachel Dowse from The Royal Parks London.

Rachel examined our long history with this bird and the importance of common species to our lives. Our residents had the opportunity to find out more about the great murmuration and why we need to pay special attention to these beauties before it's too late.

The virtual experience was truly enjoyed by all.

Christmas Fair

Last Saturday we held our annual Marple Dale Christmas Fair, it was a great success with stalls and our own tombola. Everyone had such a lovely time with their families popping in to have a look around. Our Chef provided Sausage and Bacon on rolls for residents and public. Residents also enjoyed selling our special treats we had previously made. We thank everyone for coming and every staff member that helped the activity team out on the day.

Donkey Sanctuary Manchester

Across our services, Residents enjoyed a fantastic virtual tour of the Donkey Sanctuary Manchester. Residents were thrilled to meet the lovely herd of donkeys, including Henry and his best friend Tiny Tim and to learn more about their every day care.  They were introduced to the sanctuary’s work and the impact they make to the lives of donkeys in need worldwide.  The virtual experience was truly enjoyed by all.

Writing Christmas cards

Yesterday here at Marple Dale we started preparing for Christmas by making some Reindeer food and also Christmas cards for our families. Everyone had such a good time getting into the festive spirit with Christmas Carols on in the background
