Activities at Peony Court Care Home

Our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to enhancing residents' quality of life by providing regular social and psychological stimulation. The activities can be undertaken in groups or ‘one-to-one’ and are based on individual preferences. We have a varied programme, with the goal of appealing to the interests and capabilities of all residents as best as possible. For example, there's pottery, baking, Scrabble, art classes, exercise sessions and much more. The Activities Coordinators also organise visits from entertainers, local groups, including school choirs, religious services and outings on the minibus.

Activities

Hi! I'm Paul, the Activities Co-Ordinator at Peony Court.

Before I joined the care sector I worked for many years in the hotel industry, managing housekeeping, hospitality and customer experience. Several members of my family have a history of working in care and I thought, maybe that could be me as well. I'm a natural entertainer with a flare for bringing smiles to people's faces and this was absolutely the right move for me.

Here at Peony Court, I make a point of getting to know each and every resident and their families. I tailor the activities program to suit individuals, no one is the same and everyone has different interests. It's my aim to be empathetic, enthusiastic and engaging with all of my residents. We have incredible activities and events here guided by exactly what our residents want, from pampering sessions to singing and dancing, chair exercises to arts and crafts, and diversity is absolutely the key!

I can't wait to welcome more residents and guests to Peony Court!

Life at Peony Court Care Home

World Pasta Day

The staff at Peony Court have been celebrating World Pasta Day. Head Chef, Marc Taplin, gave a demonstration on how to make fresh pasta, which was shared on our social media sites to inspire everyone to cook homemade, nutritious meals.

The finished dishes, which were ravioli and tagliatelle, were presented to the staff at East Croydon Medical Centre, giving them a taste of the quality of meals that are served at Peony Court.

Jamilla, one of the GP receptionists, accepted the meals on behalf of the Medical Centre, and was overjoyed to receive the home cooked meals for herself and her colleagues to taste.

Our Little Judges

Thank you to everyone for entering are recent virtual dog show, allowing us to host this event within the community. We were very lucky to have special guests to judge our dog entries!

The children of St David's Prep School and Holly Mortimer, from DA Lindsay & Sons, along with our Head Chef, Marc, helped us judge the 'Prettiest Pooche', 'Handsomest Hound' and the dog the judges most wanted to take home!

Grandparents Day

Sunday 4th October was National Grandparents Day. At Peony Court, we have created and donated over 200 cards that young children can colour and gift to their grandparents. We have given our cards to Trinity School & Woodcote Nursery. We hope they are thoroughly enjoyed.

Virtual Dog Show

Our online dog show is coming to an end on the 2nd October 2020. Thank you very much to all the entries; it will be really difficult to narrow down nearly 100 entries down to 3 winners! All of the dogs were stunning and we loved connecting with the local community and their furry friends! All three winners will be contacted on Monday 5th October.

Postcards for Kindness

We are so excited at Peony Court. We have been a part of the Postcards for Kindness scheme for a while now, and we have just received a lovely postcard from Falkirk.

The lovely Lesley has given us multiple crosswords, postcards and crosswords to complete. It is such a generous scheme and we would highly recommend anyone to get involved.

Emergency Services Day

Our Head Chef, Marc, has prepared over 200 individual cakes, cookies and brownies for us to donate to the London Ambulance Service NHS TrustLondon Fire BrigadeLondon Metropolitan Police, Croydon Police, Croydon Fire Station and Croydon Ambulance Station

It was just a small way to say thank you to our local heroes.
