Activities at Reigate Beaumont Care Home

Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising and delivering a fun mix of activities and events chosen by the residents here at Reigate Beaumont. We work closely with the local community who get involved in all kinds of activities within the home. We enjoy all kinds of events which could be anything from trips out to local places of interest in our minibus or visits from entertainers and musicians, spending time in our beautiful gardens, or providing great activities for the mind body and soul. We liaise with local churches and regularly hold multi-congregational services at the home.

It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and invite them to our regular events. We also have a variety of volunteers who really enjoy spending time within the home too.

Karyn Borngräber

Activities Coordinator

Each resident is unique and as an Activity Coordinator, I aim to create meaningful activities whereby residents can feel at home. From quizzes to games, stretch classes to flower arranging, reminiscing to enjoying our beautiful gardens. From musicians to Namaste sessions, outings, intergenerational and community involvement – a balanced activity program of body, mind and soul allows each resident to feel as if they have purpose and meaning in their lives. As well as sitting and having meaningful one to one engaged conversation or holding your loved ones hand – can allow a resident to feel that Reigate Beaumont is their home. With a background as a Healthcare Assistant, we are taught to provide person centred care. This has helped me to provide person centred activities.

Life at Reigate Beaumont Care Home

Sunday Morning Bingo!

On Sunday morning’s at Reigate Beaumont, residents gather in the Main Lounge for a game of Bingo. This is a really popular activity with everyone. Tony, one of our residents, is the resident bingo caller and he really enjoys this role.

Lazy Garden Afternoons

Sometimes, it’s just lovely to sit in the garden chatting to friends. Especially new friendships that are made between residents. While sitting enjoying a cup of afternoon tea, two of our residents recently realised that they had served in the same regiment in the army. What are the chances of that happening!

6th Form Students at Reigate Beaumont

This month, we have had numerous students completing their work experience here at Reigate Beaumont. The students and residents alike benefit from this amazing intergenerational activity. One of our residents taught a work experience student how to play pool. It is an activity that the resident enjoyed in his younger days and can now share with young minds.

Board Games!

Here at Reigate Beaumont we have a variety of activities on offer. From outings to Pilates, quizzes to flower arranging. But sometimes it’s just lovely to enjoy a game of Barchester’s ‘Getting To Know Me’ board game. It’s a game that gets residents talking and most importantly laughing together. And we all know that laughter is the best medicine!

Lord Mayor & Lady Mayoress of Reigate & Banstead visit Reigate Beaumont

The Mayor of Reigate & Banstead, Councillor Frank Kelly visited with residents at Reigate Beaumont. It was World Photo Day and many many photos were taken – with lots of happy smiles. The Lord Mayor & Lady Mayoress enjoyed an afternoon trolley of tea & treats made by Chef Roman. Discussions ranged from talking about his charity to our residents past careers. This was when two residents realised that they had served in the same regiment in the war. It was a very interesting afternoon. The Mayor also collected the £80 we had raised for his charity SASH at our Family Fun Day in July.

Family Fun Day

Residents and their families enjoyed a fantastic afternoon enjoying our beautiful gardens. Our Family Fun Day was an open event and families from the local area were also in attendance, listening to Miss Franny De Light that entertained with her vintage style voice. Followed by Huxley’s Birds of Prey Centre in Horsham which delighted everyone, young and old as the birds flew around, swooping and putting on a splendid show. Summer Sundae parked their ice cream van on our grounds and there was a constant line of eager children and adults waiting to order delicious ice creams. Our Head Chef Roman grilled BBQ burgers & hotdogs that went down so well on for a relaxing Saturday afternoon. If the children were asked, they would say that it was definitely the 3.5m x 15m slip slide we had on a slope along with paddle pools was the cherry on the cake. We are so pleased that the Councillor Frank Kelly, Mayor of Reigate and Banstead as well as Helyn Clack Surrey County Councillor for Dorking Rural Villages dropped in during the afternoon. Donations were also collected for the Mayors NHS Big Tea Campaign with funds going to East Surrey Hospital’s charity SASH.
