Activities at Reigate Beaumont Care Home

At Reigate Beaumont we have a fortnightly Knit and Natter Club, which has been going since the summer. Steadily, it’s getting to know people throughout the care home like a lovely leisurely afternoon to just come and relax together and have a chat, whether you enjoy knitting  Even if you don’t know how to knit, our lovely volunteer Sue is on hand to give you a quick lesson. 

Two or three residents in the last couple of months have taken up the knitting needles for the first time in decades and have discovered that knitting is a bit like riding a bike, you never really forget how to do it!

We always try to make sure they have a good variety of musical styles to suit their different tastes. In September alone we’ve heard violinists, vintage male and female singers, piano players, guitarists, opera singers and our lovely harpist, Margaret, pictured here. She is wonderfully talented, always chatty and friendly with the residents and, as she’s been coming to entertain residents here for 25 years, she’s part of the family!

Staff, residents, relatives and the local community came together at Reigate Beaumont to enjoy a Summer Fair that was held in the home’s grounds on Saturday 18^th July.

Reigate Beaumont hosted a variety of activities throughout the day, including a BBQ, local stall holders, community police, live entertainment, petting zoo and games, which were enjoyed by everyone who came to the event.

Visitors enjoyed plenty of refreshments, such as Pimms, burgers, cakes and ice creams. prepared by the catering team, who were hard at work making sure that a great time was had by all – it really was a team effort!

Taking advantage of the sunshine and visited Squires Garden Centre for some retail therapy! 

It was a beautiful day and the perfect opportunity to choose some plants for our residents’ gardening club. It’s always a pleasure to visit Squires and we all thoroughly enjoyed our morning.

We actually skipped the baking part because, to be fair, it’s hard to achieve a memorable bake in an hour-long activity, and it’s rarely possible to also be able to eat what you've made straight away, so we skipped the baking part and went straight for the icing and decorating! We had some really pretty and tasty decorations to scatter on top of the delicious cream cheese frosting we made from scratch.  

The cakes looked fantastic, but I have to say they weren’t around for very long – the residents didn’t waste any time having a taste and they were very popular!   

A lot of our residents love spending time with pets. There are a lot of dog lovers living at Reigate Beaumont! We have a regularly visiting therapy dog and here pictured is one of our residents having a cuddle with our carer, Penny’s lovely Jack Russell, who was an instant hit when he came to visit a couple of weeks ago!         

What a fantastic day here at Reigate Beaumont! With glorious sunshine and plenty of good cheer, residents enjoyed celebrating National Beer Day by sampling a variety of beers and discovering some fun and interesting facts about the history and brewing of beer.

A wonderful afternoon filled with laughter, conversation, and great company. Cheers to that.

It was a real pleasure to welcome the children of Micklefield Primary School to Reigate Beaumont! Their teacher had prepared an activity which was perfect for sharing with the residents – creating autumn leaves with crêpe paper feathers. The children and residents collaborated in small groups to come up with some lovely specimens and the children adorned the lounge’s windows with the results of their efforts.   

They were lovely children and the residents really bonded with them and shared a fantastic afternoon!

Some of our residents aren’t especially keen on arts and crafts, and so we have different ways of giving them a creative outlet and flower arranging has become a firm favourite with our residents, especially the ladies! They always enjoy this relaxing session and are always very happy to be taking a beautiful full vase back to their rooms!   

With all the sporting events being shown on the TV. Residents decided it was time to host their own event. 

The day saw teams competing in volleyball, table tennis and races throughout the day. The day ended with an awards presentation for the winning team. For those that did not wnat to take part they cheered on from the side lines. 

To celebrate International Firefighters’ Day, Reigate Beaumont was delighted to welcome our local firefighters for a special fire safety talk and live demonstration.

Residents thoroughly enjoyed the visit and loved meeting these real-life heroes while learning more about the important work they do to keep our community safe. The firefighters’ dedication, professionalism, and kindness made the day both educational and memorable.
