Activities at Reigate Beaumont Care Home

Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising and delivering a fun mix of activities and events chosen by the residents here at Reigate Beaumont. We work closely with the local community who get involved in all kinds of activities within the home. We enjoy all kinds of events which could be anything from trips out to local places of interest in our minibus or visits from entertainers and musicians, spending time in our beautiful gardens, or providing great activities for the mind body and soul. We liaise with local churches and regularly hold multi-congregational services at the home.

It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and invite them to our regular events. We also have a variety of volunteers who really enjoy spending time within the home too.

Karyn Borngräber

Activities Coordinator

Each resident is unique and as an Activity Coordinator, I aim to create meaningful activities whereby residents can feel at home. From quizzes to games, stretch classes to flower arranging, reminiscing to enjoying our beautiful gardens. From musicians to Namaste sessions, outings, intergenerational and community involvement – a balanced activity program of body, mind and soul allows each resident to feel as if they have purpose and meaning in their lives. As well as sitting and having meaningful one to one engaged conversation or holding your loved ones hand – can allow a resident to feel that Reigate Beaumont is their home. With a background as a Healthcare Assistant, we are taught to provide person centred care. This has helped me to provide person centred activities.

Life at Reigate Beaumont Care Home

Importance of Friendships

Moving into a care home can be daunting at times for some. But here at Reigate Beaumont we ensure that our residents settle in well and at their own pace. We also create opportunities for residents to meet others with similar interests and hobbies. From this, special friendships are formed and our residents feel right at home. Meeting up for a sherry now and again is a firm favourite!

Celebrating Valentine's Day

February is indeed the month of love! We had numerous activities in our home to celebrate the day. Lounges and dining rooms were all beautifully decorated and our residents that are couples and residents with partners had a special dining room lunch.  The afternoon saw an arrangement of love songs sung by one of our favourite musicians. Ending off with what some residents said was the biggest cake they had ever seen! Residents really enjoyed looking at the special display made in highlighting the day’s activities.

Getting to Know Me

It is important for everyone to keep fit and healthy and one way is by having seated exercise activities suitable for residents in a care home. A favourite game is our ‘Getting to Know Me’ ball. Really good for hand-eye coordination but a really great game to play with residents and staff to get to know one another better. It is especially great for new residents as the questions on the ball encourage conversation. Staff enjoy playing it too!

Dignity Month Discussions

On the 1st of February, everyone in the home celebrated Dignity Action Day together. Mariola, our Dignity Champion spent time throughout the month with residents and staff, holding sessions to discuss what dignity means to them and listening as they expressed their needs and wants. It was a wonderful way for everyone to share how they feel about the topic. By putting the focus on dignity in all areas of our care services and including staff, family and friends, we ensure we are putting dignity at the heart of all we do.

Balloon Tennis

Keeping fit is important for our residents wellbeing and any kind of exercise is great first thing in the morning. From balloon tennis to seated stretch exercises to Pilates - all a firm favourite on our activities schedule.

Flower Arranging

On International Flower Day, residents enjoyed making some beautiful flower arrangements to put on display on our lovely piano in the Main Lounge. Relaxing activities like these are good for the mind and the soul and the body enjoyed a lovely cup of tea and cake afterward!
