Activities at South Chowdene Care Home

Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Niki Powell

Activities Coordinator

I arrange meaningful activities for all of our residents based on their likes and interests. I love sharing fun times with our residents, their families and with staff. I thoroughly enjoy chatting with residents about their hobbies/interests as well as reminiscing in small groups.

Our activities extend beyond the home with trips to places of interest, places residents have enjoyed throughout their lives eg. Seaside, parks, garden centers, as well as craft/ art workshops at libraries and general interest talks around the area.

Life at South Chowdene Care Home

Egg-cellent

Egg-cellent

Over the last 10 days, residents and staff (and a fair few family members and friends) have watched eggs hatch and the chicks get to grips with their surroundings.

It has been a fascinating time and we are all amazed at how fast the chicks have developed. They have been a very active corner and caused a few bottlenecks, with people stopping to have a little chat with them.

Unfortunately, they have to go to the farm to spread their wings soon, but they have really brought the place to life.

The local primary school visited to draw the chicks and residents loved to see the children awed by them. The drawings were given to residents, who now have them up on their bedroom walls.

Employee of the Month - August

Employee of the Month - August

Our Employee of the month for August was Care Assistant, Donna Sim.

Staff who nominated here feel that Donna always goes above and beyond in her role. Donna has a young child at home but still picks up numerous shifts to help her colleagues out.

South Chowdene held a ‘Bake Off’ during Foundation Week. Families and staff members brought in homemade cakes, which were judged by our local Councillor. The winner was the pick-and-mix chocolate cake and carrot cake - joint first. Both were made by staff members, Michael and Gary; Michael made the carrot cake and Gary made the sweet cake.
