Meet the South Chowdene Care Home Team

Our staff are what hold the home together. Each one of these team members are dedicated to providing high quality care and services to those we support, and ensuring that residents enjoy all aspects of life at our home. See below to meet some of our friendly faces:

Kelly Angus

General Manager

Hi, my name is Kelly and I am General Manager here at South Chowdene.

I started my career in social care at the age of 17 as a laundry assistant and it very quickly became clear to me that the health sector was an area I loved.

From working as a laundry assistant, I then became a carer. I was extremely keen to learn all I could and develop my knowledge and skills. I successfully completed my NVQ 2 in direct care. I immediately went onto complete NVQ level 3, before progressing to Unit Manager for a newly built 20 bedded dementia care unit with great success.

I left to complete my nurse training and after 3 years working in Accident and Emergency, I returned to the care home where my career had all begun. I simply love supporting and making people feel better and good about themselves.

I am constantly looking at how to improve a persons’ quality of care and day to day life. I look forward to meeting you when you visit the home.

Clare Lambert-Gardiner

Hi, my name is Clare and I am the home administrator here at South Chowdene.  I have worked for Barchester for over 11 years and in my role I deal with all aspects of the administration of the home to ensure it runs smoothly, from invoicing, ordering, recruitment, setting up contracts, to manning the telephones, there's never a dull day!

Before becoming the homes administrator over 7-years ago, a role my Mother also held.  I spent a number of years as activities coordinator. South Chowdene is more than a workplace to me, it is my second home and family. Even so much my sister now works here as a RGN and my eldest daughter is a Care Assistant here.

Niki Powell

Activities Coordinator

I arrange meaningful activities for all of our residents based on their likes and interests. I love sharing fun times with our residents, their families and with staff. I thoroughly enjoy chatting with residents about their hobbies/interests as well as reminiscing in small groups.

Our activities extend beyond the home with trips to places of interest, places residents have enjoyed throughout their lives eg. Seaside, parks, garden centers, as well as craft/ art workshops at libraries and general interest talks around the area.

My names Lynne, I have worked at South Chowdene since 2009.  My background was cooking in pubs and I decided to make the leap to a Care Home. I joined as Second Chef alongside the role of Kitchen Assistant, then in 2022 I took on the role as Head Chef.

I love working here with the team and always give 100% to ensure our residents have a healthy, well balanced and nutritious diet.

Hello. My name is Kerry. I am the Head Housekeeper here at South Chowdene.

I joined the Barchester family in 2023. I have worked across the care sector for the last 10 years, starting off as a domestic, then applying for the role of head housekeeper.

I love my job! No two days are the same. I love nothing more than a nice clean home for all of our residents, families and colleagues.

I would highly recommend Barchester to anyone wanting to work in the care sector.

Val Coltart and Edna Scurfield.

Resident Ambassadors

We would like to introduce you to our Resident Ambassadors – Val Coltart and Edna Scurfield.  Both of our residents take an active part in our life enrichment programme and the homes resident forum. They are voice of the resident group and as Ambassadors will meet with our residents to find out their values, feedback and any ideas for  improvement.

The ladies are also available to participate in the recruitment process by being part of the interview panel and each plays an important part in introducing new residents to the home.  When considering care options for yourself or a loved one is often a difficult decision and our Resident Ambassadors are available to answer any questions on your journey of what it is like to live in our home.
