Activities at Tyspane Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Tyspane Care Home Family Fun Day

Sunday the 9th July 2023 was a day to be remembered by all.  Tyspane Care Home was bursting with energy at 8.00 am preparing for the annual Family Fun Day at 2.00 pm. Balloons were blown up, bunting hung, vases filled with beautiful blooms and outside seating arranged. Our young volunteers made sure Tyspane Care Home shone bright and beautiful.

Stall holders started arriving with a spectacular array of homemade craft pieces which included hand knitted baby clothes, homemade cakes, silk scarfs, jewellery, books, cosmetics and toys. Tyspane Care Home provided raffle and tombola stalls with fabulous prizes including spa days, vouchers, plants and baskets of fruit. The cream teas and ice-creams were simply delicious and a hit with everyone especially the young children.

Luckily, the sun shone which allowed family and friends to socialise outside and watch the young play bowls, spin hoops and run around trying to solve cryptic clues for the scavenger hunt. Never a dull moment allowing for wonderful memories with loved ones to be made.

Entertainment was provided by the famous “Hatchet Jack” with a mixture of new and old songs allowing staff, friends and families to sing and dance. Followed by The Victorians playing the Hurdy-Gurdy, simply magical.

In Harmony – Barnstaple Ladies Choir

Today at Tyspane Care Home, we were visited by the elegant, sophisticated and truly wonderful Barnstaple Ladies Choir. The ladies sang in harmony to a number of classics such as “You raise me up” and “On eagle’s wings”.

Residents were captivated by the musical melodies and enjoyed chatting to the ladies after the event which supported and strengthen community links.

Thank you Ladies.

Spring Flower Show

We had a wonderful Spring flower show, the residents had a posy making class then they were judged. We also had live music from Dog Leg.

Rev up your engines at Tyspane Care Home

Residents have been racing around a virtual track, playing Mario Kart on the Nintendo Switch. With the use of the motion controls, residents were able to zoom around various courses all the while competing to be the winner. It was good fun and saw some real talent and ability but it was the red team who reigned triumphant today. We have also been getting our environments ready for the six nations rugby this weekend. We even have a friendly sweepstake, being run by one of our residents. We will all be tuning in to watch England take on Scotland on Saturday.

Tea Party at Tyspane

One of our recent events that saw residents and staff singing, dancing and laughing away the afternoon was our Tea Party. We were joined by Terry Bond who performed another musical medley which was complimented with plenty of cake, treats and light refreshments. Everyone said they had a great time and is looking forward to more afternoon tea parties at Tyspane.

Harvest Festival

Tyspane Care home created a Harvest Festival display with help from Babs, Josie and some of the Residents. Once the Harvest Festival display is finalised, Babs will take Residents from all 2 units of the home on a stroll around the area to view the display, Babs will explain some history about the Harvest Festival and why it is celebrated. Residents loves the display that Babs and Josie has put together and are overjoyed and can’t wait to have their photos taken with the bunting displays!
