Activities at West Oak Care Home
Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Celebrating life at West Oak Care Home
Live performance
What a great afternoon we all had with singer/actress Hannah.
Hannah brings so much energy, fun and laughter to her performances, with characters in mind. Residents with their smiles and participation was so wonderful to see. Hannah bought a fantastic new act this time with Leggy Linda Exercises. It was so much fun and everyone enjoyed it.
West Oak gets together fort Barchester’s Get Moving Week
Residents had a great time for our Get Moving week. We started with our weekly gentle chair exercises with physiotherapist Sebastian. We then had lots of fun with Kelly from G Fitness, especially when she bought the noodles and exercise bands.
Chair dancing was next at Gary’s musical show, which is always guaranteed to get everyone moving. Last but by no means least was our very own Barchester’s Live Virtual Extendersize with the amazing 80-year-old host. What a great week, and everyone joined in.
Cheese and Wine!
What a lovely afternoon we all had for our International Cheese Day.
Residents indulged in some tasty cheeses and crackers with a nice glass of their favourite wine. From Red Leicester to Smoked Cheddar to Danish Blue, they all said what a great afternoon they had, and what a great choice to choose from.
It was so wonderful to see everyone enjoy themselves in a sociable, happy environment.

A Memorable Day out at Reading FC for our Gentleman’s Club
At West Oak we had a fantastic outing for our Gentleman’s Club. As part of Dementia Action Week, we were warmly welcomed to the iconic Reading Football Stadium for a day filled with connection, nostalgia and unforgettable memories.
From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed and served tea, coffee and cake by the wonderful staff and enthusiastic young academy players. The highlight of the visit was a heart-warming and insightful talk led by three former Reading FC Legends, delivered from the stands overlooking the pitch – a view that brought back so many fond memories for our members.
We were given a chance to walk around the pitch, soaking up the atmosphere and snapping a few cherished photos. It was especially touching to see both Johns beaming with joy, a day all of us will truly remember.

VE Day 80th anniversary celebrations!
West Oak had a wonderful afternoon celebrating VE Day's 80th Anniversary.
Residents lent a helping hand decorating the home getting ready for our celebrations, with a smile.
Residents, staff, families and friends all joined together to celebrate this momentous occasion. Conversations were flowing between all the residents and staff, and we enjoyed singing along to all those old sing-along songs. It was certainly an afternoon to remember.
Everyone said they had a wonderful afternoon reminiscing and enjoying the selection of food and snacks. One resident commented on how lovely the atmosphere was in the room with so much fun, laughter and joy.

Mini Bus Trip
Here at West Oak we had a wonderful Mini Bus Trip out to Dinton Pastures Country Park in Winnersh.
Once we arrived and parked the bus, we started with a steady walk to the lake to see the ducks, geese and swans. We took a little break by the lake, relaxing, watching and listening to what was going on around us. It was so tranquil and peaceful. We then enjoyed a little stroll back to the café where we enjoyed a light lunch and drinks.
Resident John said he felt so good and what a lovely way to spend the day, and couldn’t thank us enough.

Red Nose Day!
Residents, staff, families and friends got together for a fun and sociable time.
Coffee and cakes were flowing with conversations of all kinds to make the atmosphere warm and heartfelt.
Everyone said they had a lovely time.

Love was in the air this Valentine's Day
Our very talented entertainer Gary stole the show with his incredible performance, filling the room with beautiful music that had everyone singing along.
Asa sweet touch, Gary gifted each of our lady residents with a lovely red rose, spreading joy and romance throughout the afternoon. The men we did not leave out, as Activity Co-Ordinator Dawn, made sure they felt just as special by also giving them a red rose.
It was a lovely afternoon, full of music, laughter and heartfelt moments.

Garden Centre Visit
Our residents and staff had an amazing trip out to one of the local garden centres, soaking in the festive atmosphere with its fabulous Christmas decorations.
They savoured delicious hot chocolate with homemade fresh cakes, while our talented carer Ivan added a special touch by entertaining everyone with his wonderful piano playing for all to enjoy.
A truly wonderful, joyful and memorable outing.
