Activities at West Oak Care Home
Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.
Dawn Davies & Helen Fagan
Dawn and Helen are at the centre of all the activities here at West Oak. They provide an interesting and varied activities schedule and ensure that there is something for everyone. They are passionate about the importance of activities and will go that extra mile just for a smile or a raised eyebrow, whether it's one-to-one time or a group session, inside or out, fun is had by all.

Life at West Oak Care Home
Happy Birthday Pete
Resident Pete had a great day celebrating his 70th Birthday, with lots of smiles, cards and gifts. We were able to arrange a video call with Pete’s Cousin Jane, who he adores. Pete loved sharing his amazing Birthday Cake, made by our talented Chef, with the other Residents, Staff and Families.
The Wedding of Mr and Mrs Stewart!
Here at West Oak, we were privileged to be asked to host its first Wedding on Friday 19th May for Resident Ian and his Partner Caroline. The couple have been together over 20 years before deciding to tie the knot.
The couple were over the moon with the transformation of one of our lounges into a Wedding Venue and everyone enjoyed the Buffet style refreshments created by our dedicated Chef and Kitchen Team. Much to the delight of some of our Residents and Staff they were invited to join the Family and Friends at the Ceremony.
The Ceremony still managed to feel intimate, with Caroline’s Brother escorting her to her husband to be. The Service was lovely and bought a tear to the eye of more than one or two guests. The atmosphere after the Service was a happy one with lots of conversation, as everyone enjoyed the food and a glass of Prosecco in honour of special couple, Mr and Mrs Stewart.
Everyone here at West Oak wishes them a happy marriage”.
A Visit from Wokingham Mayor
West Oak were delighted to welcome Wokingham Mayor Cllr Marie Gee, accompanied by her Consort Chris Gee and Mayor’s Attendant David Dunham, with Afternoon Tea, including a selection of finger sandwiches, homemade cakes, and beverages were prepared by our talented chef.
The Mayor commented she enjoyed meeting all of our Residents and is looking forward to coming to visit again.
General Manager Simona said “ it was lovely to have the Mayor here for the afternoon. Our Residents were delighted that she was able to visit us and spend time with everyone. We all had a wonderful afternoon and we hope that Cllr Maria Gee will come to see us again soon “.
A 'Flipping' Good Time!
Residents and Staff had a flipping good time during this year’s Pancake Day celebrations. Our pancake flipping has become a bit of a tradition here at West Oak and is an entertaining fun way to bring people together. Afterwards Residents relaxed watching the UK’s Pancake races on the big TV and tucked into delicious home-made pancakes with a selection of tempting toppings.
Aromatic Hand Massages
Residents here at West Oak benefit from the expertise of Aromatherapist Marie from Tranquillity Beauty Therapy. Who comes fortnightly to give our Residents an aromatic hand massage which can help ease muscle tension and reduce pain, for example from arthritis.
The aromatherapy oils help promote feelings of relaxation and are a great way to start the day the right way. Residents often comment how special and pampered they feel after Marie has visited.
Valentines at West Oak
Gary Roman, one of our regular entertainers, helped us to celebrate this Valentine’s Day by making our Residents and Staff feel extra special.
Gary bought a smile to our Residents faces and made sure the staff felt special too by giving out fresh red roses while singing romantic love songs as he presented them. Everyone felt buoyant after his performance and the roses continue to brighten the Residents rooms.
