Activities at Westwood House Care Home

As Activity Coordinator at Westwood House I am fully committed to organising activities for all of the residents. This includes activities within the home such as reminiscence sessions, and planning events such as the Summer and Christmas parties. We have also provided some very successful trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and have monthly visits from entertainers and musicians. We are always encouraging local schools to get involved and have recently managed to get a local charity 'Spare tyre' working with us very successfully.

It is important to me that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Liz Wickers

Lifestyle Coordinator

My name is Liz and I am the lifestyle coordinator at Westwood House. I have always lived and worked in Southwark and Lambeth boroughs. I spent 25 years within the education sector before deciding to try new roles. As well as teaching I have also had the privilege of being a personal carer in Dementia. I am so happy that I have been welcomed into the Westwood House family where I can continue to grow and develop.

I aim to offer a range of varied and tailored activities and group sessions that are meaningful to each of them. I am thrilled to be supporting the team in delivering fun, engaging and interesting activities for our residents.

I look forward to meeting you all!

The Magic Table

Residents are using our Magic Table individually on Memory Lane. These interactive sensory games of great for those living with dementia.

Jigsaw Puzzles

Residents have been enjoying some wine whilst completing their puzzles. Everyone had lots of fun!

Music & Wine

We enjoyed the music provided by one of our residents, who was playing the electric organ. She had good support from the rest of the residents in our lounge, and one or two others were busy trying to complete jigsaws as part of a challenge while enjoying a glass of wine.

Macmillan Coffee Morning

We celebrated our McMillan Coffee Morning on Friday 25th September. Robert assisted our residents to make some lovely cakes, which showed our appreciation to them and to all of the NHS nurses who all work so hard.

It was a very different occasion this year without any visitors, but we made up for it with lots of chatting and laughter. We talked about the NHS nurses, and everyone really appreciates the hard work they do. The cakes were very tasty and disappeared very quickly.

Dot-to-Dot

Our residents enjoyed a morning of quite challenging dot-to-dot puzzles, and quite intensive colouring books, which were quite detailed and required lots of concentration.

It had been quite a while since we had done some of these puzzles, so there was plenty of laughs trying to get our finders back into good form, and hard concentration needed from everyone!

Friendship Day

Team members and residents at Westwood House celebrated their Friendship Day on Friday 31st July. Some residents wrote cards to be sent out to friends or children from the local community, others helped preparing the festive food for the day.

Friendship Day was celebrated by the residents talking about friendship and what it means to them and they were writing their friendship cards to be sent out to their friends and families and the local community groups, who we have not been able to visit for a few months now.
