Activities at Westwood House Care Home
As Activity Coordinator at Westwood House I am fully committed to organising activities for all of the residents. This includes activities within the home such as reminiscence sessions, and planning events such as the Summer and Christmas parties. We have also provided some very successful trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and have monthly visits from entertainers and musicians. We are always encouraging local schools to get involved and have recently managed to get a local charity 'Spare tyre' working with us very successfully.
It is important to me that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Shazzy Khanna
Lifestyle Coordinator
Since joining Westwood House, I've discovered just how much a meaningful activity can brighten someone's day. I love getting to know our residents, learning about their interests and life stories, and using that to create activities that are enjoyable, inclusive, and personal to them.
Whether we're celebrating a special occasion, getting creative with arts and crafts, enjoying quizzes and games, exercising together, or heading out on a community trip, my goal is always to make sure everyone feels involved and has something to look forward to.
The best part of my job is seeing residents smile, laugh, share memories, and build friendships. It's incredibly rewarding to know that even the smallest moments can make a real difference. I'm proud to be part of the Westwood House family and look forward to creating many more happy memories with our residents and their loved ones.

Dog therapy
A paw, a cuddle, a happy sigh… who knew such little paws could lift spirits so high?
Today, our lounge was filled with wagging tails, happy faces and moments of pure joy as residents spent time with our furry visitor. Whether sharing a cuddle, a smile or a gentle pat, everyone experienced the magic that only animal companionship can bring.
Laughter echoed through the lounge as old memories were shared, and new connections were made, proving that sometimes the smallest paws leave the biggest footprints on our hearts.

Supporting and Involving Residents, Family and Friends
Our residents and their loved ones enjoyed a wonderful visit to the Dementia Café, taking part in expressive dancing, ancient Indian meditation, and sharing delicious refreshments together.
These meaningful outings help strengthen community connections, promote wellbeing, and create opportunities for residents and families to enjoy quality time together.

A walk in the Park
Residents enjoyed a wonderful day at Crystal Palace Park, making the most of the sunshine, fresh air, and beautiful surroundings. From relaxing walks to a fun game of Don't Panic!, the outing was filled with laughter, friendship, and shared memories. Days like these promote wellbeing, encourage social connection, and create moments residents will always cherish.

Ballet performance
The students at Sydenham High School join us on Tuesdays for friendship, fun and laughter. This week we were treated to a ballet performance. What a treat it was!
We were astounded how the ballerina could dance on the tip of the toes.
Such a beautiful performance and we look forward to the next one.

Adventure to Tooting Broadway Market!
As part of Nutrition Month at Barchester, we set off to explore the vibrant market, sample some delicious Ghanaian food, and treat our taste buds to something new. We couldn’t leave empty-handed, so we brought back some refreshing lychee juices and tasty biscuits for our residents to enjoy too!

Magical moments!
Today one of our fabulous residents took a trip down Memory Lane and got the opportunity to ‘pull a pint’. This brought back many memories of her time serving the locals and making sure the good folk of Lewisham were watered.
As the sun decided to pop out, we treated ourselves to a pub lunch and a glass of fizz. Magical Memories Made!

International Nurses Day
Celebrating our wonderful Nurses on International Nurses Day. Where would we be with them? They give care, kindness and compassion to the residents and staff, and we truly appreciate them all.
Thank you for all that you do!

Butterfly house
Flutter, flutter, up so high… look around, a butterfly!
Our residents enjoyed a wonderful visit to the butterfly house at Forest Hill Museum, where they were surrounded by beautiful butterflies, vibrant plants and the peaceful atmosphere of the tropical gardens. From watching butterflies glide gracefully through the air to exploring the fascinating surroundings, the day was filled with laughter, conversation and moments of wonder.
The outing offered residents the opportunity to connect with nature, share special memories and enjoy quality time together in a truly unique setting. It was a delightful day full of smiles and unforgettable moments.

Chinese fan painting
An afternoon well spent here at Westwood House, designing our very own Chinese fans. Supported by Ava Li to understand 'huaniaohu' (flower and bird painting), focusing on nature's beauty and symbolic meaning.
Together we created some beautiful fans and had a wonderful afternoon.

Dancing at Westwood House
An absolute delight to have Ava Li come and teach us some traditional Chinese fan dancing.
She took us through the moves, teaching us the meaning of each one, then it was time to put our skills to the test.
