What our families say on carehome.co.uk
"I went to visit a friend. The home was very tidy and clean. The cafe area was bright and welcoming with fresh cake and coffee. I was treated like part of the community and welcomed by all the bright smiley faces. I had a wonderful day catching up with my friend, watched the home's fireworks display and she told me about all the things she gets up to. Such a wonderful home and loving community."

"The first time I visited this care home I knew it was the place for my mum. The set-up and the staff make it homely, calming, clean, friendly, efficient and everyone works effortlessly together. The staff automatically interact with the residents and there is no chaos or disturbances. The bedrooms are spacious and bright. Due to my mum's advanced stage of dementia, she needed more specialised nursing care and this home certainly provides it and my family and I are happy that she is thriving in this safe and caring environment. For me, this means that, finally, I have been able to focus on my own health and well-being and the staff have all been super kind and supportive to both myself and my mum during this time. Thank you to all the wonderful, cheerful and smiling staff that greet me whenever I visit and are always so positive and helpful."

"Arriving at Barchester Windmill Manor Care Home, after looking at a number of care homes in the area for my mother, I was greeted with warmth and care from the manager who was so kind and understanding about the situation we found ourselves in and I felt immediately easier about the unknown future. Windmill Manor is calm, clean, well-maintained and every staff member smiles at me when I visit. The decor is soft and tasteful and the dining room is always laid up nicely with menus and napkins. All the staff wear clearly displayed name badges and their uniforms are always neat and tidy. The biggest plus about Windmill Manor is the care and kindness my mother receives. From a welcoming receptionist, care staff and nurses, housekeeping, chefs, maintenance staff - everyone is kind. As a relative visiting, they all make me feel like I am a part of the community. They have made such a difference to my life as I know my mother is safe, clean, fed and looked after. I am happy I found Windmill."

"The staff at Barchester Windmill Manor Care Home are some of the kindest people I've ever met. Not only do they support my dad with all he needs (which is an awful lot now), they also support me which is so appreciated! All the staff here work incredibly hard and give so much love and kindness to the residents. I'm so grateful to all the staff here. They are angels. Nothing is too much trouble. We couldn't ask for anything more from a care home. These people go above and beyond! Thank you all so much."

"Very wary originally due to poor respite care experience elsewhere. However, delighted with Windmill Manor. My husband was smiling and clean and enjoyed his stay. Staff were very reassuring and nothing was made to be a massive problem. This was his first week, but he settled in well and enjoyed the food and fun atmosphere created by the carers. This was not easy as my husband is aphasic."

"My wife has been at Barchester Windmill Manor Care Home since February '16. Overall, the care has been good. Some staff are excellent. My wife has had medical problems and the have responded well with either the doctor being called or the ambulance called and she was in hospital with a chest infection. I like the way residents can express a likeness for certain foods. (My wife likes mushroom and eggs)."

"My brother who has constant falls, as he had when at home. He is aware of his situation. Staff can only do their best by keeping him under observation when possible and encourage him to be involved in activities. My brother is a loner, living as a single person for many years."

"I have looked after a neighbour for 2 1/2 years. She now is in need of 24 hour care. She is 93. I found Windmill Manor who were also willing to take her small beloved dog - Mal. Everyone has helped her settle in. They have also been extremely kind to my husband and I. I would recommend this home to anyone."

"The genuine desire to provide care is strongly evident in Windmill. My experience over 18 months of caring for my mother was, there seemed to be a core of very good carers who you could always rely on to provide the 'best'. But there were carers who didn't exhibit to the same level, some more recently recruited, which is why I have marked 'good' overall rather than excellent. I would have liked a bit more interaction during the day with residents but it was sometimes evident staff shortages meant this couldn't happen as much. My mother's end of life' care was superb."

"It can be very daunting for residents and their families when a loved one moves into a care home. We took time to look at our options and found that Windmill Manor offered the best care and environment for Mum. The care team were very understanding, and although it took Mum time to settle she is happy and safe."

"The staff, which change often, are caring but my Mother has lost her glasses and hearing aid, neither have been found. There is always an unsavoury smell when you go into the nursing area. Food good as far as I can see."

"My Mum is well cared for. The interaction between staff and residents is always caring. The staff are very understanding and helpful and deal with any distressed behaviour from residents in a kind and compassionate way. My sister and I are very happy with how my Mum is cared for and we now don't have to worry about our Mum as she is safe."

"My wife, a dementia sufferer has received efficient and loving care since entering the home. The staff, particularly the carers, are always considerate but maintaining this standard is made difficult by the high turn-over."

"Carers are wonderful! Mum often does not want to get up in the mornings or shower, but they always manage to do more than I ever would ever be able to do with my own mother! Mum was quite thin and not remembering to eat when she first came, but now she is looking like her old self again. Our thanks."

"My friend was admitted as an end of life approach resident. I promised her I would not let her enter a care home - that I would nurse her at home (which I did for 2 years) but her condition worsened to such an extent that I had no other option. Among other things, my friend has vascular dementia so was not wholly aware of her circumstances. I could not have chosen a more caring home for her."

"The home specialises in dementia care. The atmosphere is lovely and staff are supportive and friendly. Nursing care is of a good standard and other care offered is good and professional. Relatives are well supported, both by staff and other relatives and included in many activities. Food is very good. My husband has now put on too much weight! On admission, he was very thin!"

"I believe our Mother is well cared for at Windmill Manor. She always looks clean and fresh and her health appears good. The staff are always very friendly, despite being busy, and they appear to include residents as much as they are able. However, I am not too sure how much staff time allows for 'one to one' interaction. Being able to drop by to see our mother at any time during the day is very helpful, and I also see the home as it runs on a daily basis. It is especially nice to be able to take Mum out into the coffee lounge/reception."

"Mum is very well looked after by the staff at Windmill Manor, all of whom seem very caring and treat her with real affection and respect. The food is good and despite having a very small appetite she enjoys her meals. They make an effort to provide Mum with high-calorie supplements, to counteract her falling weight, and always let the family know if there are concerns about her health."

"Windmill Manor provides my sister with all of her needs. The accommodation is comfortable and warm. The food is varied and good. There is ample room to walk around and a pleasant garden area. The "social" room is large with plenty of chairs and a TV. The activities are varied and well organised with residents taking an active part. Music and singing is very popular and well attended."

"My mother in law has a very sad case of dementia and I have found on my visits everything to be satisfactory in terms of her care and well-being. My wife (her daughter) sees her almost every day is in a better position to make a detailed judgement. I find the activities programme to be really progressive in her care."

"Welcoming to residents and relatives. Communication systems a bit hard to fathom (who to ask about what). I think some of this info could be in written form in a 'welcome pack'. Staff are approachable and reassuring - relationships between residents and carers are warm and engaging - they know the residents well. :)"

"I found it very difficult to make the decision that it was time for mum to go into a home. I had always said I would not do it so the guilt was off the scale. Mum has mixed vascular Alzheimer's. Stopping in her own home meant she became a danger to herself as she lived alone. The staff were marvellous and she settled very quickly. She has been at Barchester Windmill Manor Care Home for almost five years now and has been happy. For the first three years, she had a better social package than me. Then we found out mum had lung cancer, the level of care she has received is second to none. Everyone from the manager to the chef and everyone between has been so supportive of her changing needs and also my own."

"The staff are great and in my opinion, underpaid given that the home costs in excess of £4,800 PCM. It would be nice to see them being paid more for what is a very hard job. Dad's carers are what made me choose this home in the first place, they are fantastic."
