Wokingham launches scheme to help vulnerable adults

A new scheme has been launched to provide assistance to vulnerable adults in the town of Wokingham.

The Safer Places scheme is being run by shops and local business in the town, with vulnerable people who may need help able to seek it at one of 290 locations, reports the Crowthorne & Sandhurst Times.

Staff at the participating venues have been given guidance on how to deal with those who may need assistance and who to contact should it be necessary.

One of the places taking part in the scheme is Barchester's West Oak care home, which was purpose built in a residential area of the town to care for older people, including those living with dementia.

"Wokingham is a safe place to live and work and we are not asking the shops to do anything different - it's more about raising the awareness and giving people that bit of reassurance," scheme co-ordinator Johan Baker told the publication.
