Activities at Adlington Manor Care Home
Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.
Lynne Bowler
I joined the activities team at Adlington Manor in May 2017. Previously, I have worked as a tree surgeon and have had heavy involvement with the Guides and Brownies. I love participating in activities with residents, whether that's by driving the minibus on trips outside the home, or by engaging in themed days.
I am passionate about my role and especially the challenge of coming up with new ways to engage as many residents as possible in our activities here.

Life at Adlington Manor Care Home
Book corner with Graham Whitlock
We had a lovely time joining Graham Whitlock for an exciting virtual event to discuss his book ‘The Crystal Palace Chronicles: Star of Nimrod’.
Our residents were thrilled to find out more about the book and the fictional character Joe, who went on a rollercoaster adventure travelling back in time to the heyday of Victorian Crystal Palace.
Everyone had lots of fun during the virtual talk, as Graham took them on a clever and hilarious adventure. A great time was had by all.
Puppy love!
Residents at Adlington Manor enjoyed a paw-tastic afternoon with a visit from Buddy, a 10-week old puppy. Residents enjoyed a heart melting visit from well behaved Buddy as part of their life enrichment progamme leading up to the homes Jubilee celebrations. Residents got to hold and play with their new friend and look forward to a return visit as part of their pet therapy sessions.
Throughout the afternoon residents shared stories about their much loved pets, names with one remarking “it was lovely to meet Buddy, it reminded me of when I was a young girl and we got our first dog, I hope he visits again soon!”
V E Celebrations
Residents at marked the anniversary of VE Day in style by throwing a ratio book tasting session to remember the foods available at the time, the spread was especially prepared by the homes hospitality team. The home was specially decorated for the occasion with flags and bunting.
Our residents listened to wartime tunes, reminisced about their memories of VE Day and watched clips of the celebrations that took place outside Buckingham Palace and all across London and looked back to the day with a VE day activity book and quiz.
It was a fabulous day, enjoyed by all.
National Doughnut Week
As part of National Doughnut Week we got involved in a variety of activities in support of the Children’s Trust, the leading charity for children with brain injuries and neurodisabilities. Our residents participated in a tasting session and had fun decorating doughnuts.
All in all, the week was a great success, we managed to raise funds for the children and to enjoy some very yummy doughnuts.
Book corner with Henry Slator
We had a lovely time joining Henry Slator for an exciting virtual event to discuss his book ‘Conversations at the Pond’.
Henry had an unusual writing journey, which many of our residents found inspiring, he underwent chemotherapy in early 2020, which allowed him to rediscover his light-hearted outlook on life by imagining conversations with creatures in and around his large garden pond and adding buckets of fun.
The entertaining Conversations at the Pond, with its mass of colourful illustrations, took our residents along his journey, they felt inspired, cheered and loved hearing all about Henry’s experiences.
Scrabble tournament
Residents at Adlington Manor celebrated National Scrabble Day! The home was in high spirits as we celebrated the day in style by organising inter-home scrabble tournament.
The day finished off with a Scrabble quiz and delicious afternoon treats, which brought smiles and laughter into the home.
Many of the residents take pleasure in playing scrabble and find it relaxing, they also enjoy making new friends along the way.
