Activities at Adlington Manor Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Lynne Bowler

Activities Coordinator

I joined the activities team at Adlington Manor in May 2017. Previously, I have worked as a tree surgeon and have had heavy involvement with the Guides and Brownies. I love participating in activities with residents, whether that's by driving the minibus on trips outside the home, or by engaging in themed days.

I am passionate about my role and especially the challenge of coming up with new ways to engage as many residents as possible in our activities here.

Christingle

As part of our creative festive activities, we’ve organised a crafts session to make Christingles - a symbolic object, which represents ‘Christ’s light’.

Our residents used oranges, candles, ribbons, sticks holding dried fruit and nuts to create beautiful Christingle decorations, which will be displayed around the home and also distributed to our local community.

Every element of the Christingle is symbolic: the orange represents the world, the red ribbon symbolised the blood of Jesus, the four sticks signify the compass directions and the seasons, the dried fruit are the fruits of the Earth and the lit candle represents Jesus as the light of the world.

We all had fun while making the Christingles.

Blenheim Palace

Our residents were thrilled to join Antonia Keaney - Blenheim Palace’s Historian for an intriguing virtual talk on Winston Churchill.

The private resources of Blenheim Palace were drawn upon to afford very new and refreshing insights into this remarkable man. During the talk Antonia shared fascinating information about the breadth of talent, achievement and personality of the "Greatest Briton": soldier, politician, statesman, painter, writer, orator, family man - and bricklayer!

We all had a wonderful time and enjoyed learning more about UK’s former Prime Minister.

National Chocolate Day

Residents and staff at Adlington Manor recently celebrated National Chocolate Day, which, recognizes one of the world’s favorite tastes. While many specific chocolate-related holidays exist throughout the year, National Chocolate Day celebrates all things chocolate

The homes hospitality team whipped up a selection of delicious mouth-watering treats from Chocolate baked Alaska, white and dark chocolate tarts and Chocolate knickerbocker glories, there was also a supply of tasty biscuits to accompany fresh cups of tea throughout the day!

Blooming Haus

We were delighted to join Blooming Haus’s Christmas Wreath Making Masterclass, where Master Florist, Michal and his business partner - Michael showed us the best method to create beautiful festive wreaths.

Following the tips and ideas learnt during the amazing virtual experience, we were happy to put our skills to a test and to enter the #BarchesterChristmasWreaths competition.

We all had a wonderful time creating our festive wreath/s.

Thank you @bloominghaus for helping our residents flow into the true spirit of Noel.

Children in Need

Residents and staff at Adlington Manor in Adlington have taken part in a sponsored fun to raise money for Children in Need.

Taking place this year on Friday 19 November, Children in Need raises money to help support local charities and projects which are providing essential frontline help to children and young people in communities throughout the UK.

Residents, visitors and staff at Adlington Manor were all very supportive and were there to cheer on the participants as they began the fundraising challenge.

Fiona Gough, General Manager at the home said: “Taking part in Children in Need has been a huge amount of fun and everyone at the home has been behind us all the way. It’s for such an important cause. I’m very glad to be able to do my bit to raise both awareness and money for Children in Need and all the initiatives it supports.”
