Activities at Adlington Manor Care Home
Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.
Lynne Bowler
I joined the activities team at Adlington Manor in May 2017. Previously, I have worked as a tree surgeon and have had heavy involvement with the Guides and Brownies. I love participating in activities with residents, whether that's by driving the minibus on trips outside the home, or by engaging in themed days.
I am passionate about my role and especially the challenge of coming up with new ways to engage as many residents as possible in our activities here.

Balloon creations
Residents at Adlington Manor had an amazing afternoon with the talented Alex from Bollington Balloons who created some wonderful characters and displays for us. We love our balloon art! Thank you @BollingtonBalloons for a fun-filled afternoon.
Magic of the Nutcracker
We experienced the magic of the Nutcracker with a special interactive workshop led by English National Ballet Associate Artists.
Our residents were able to take a magical journey thorough Edwardian London and to learn more about the enchanted Nutcracker characters: Clara, the Mouse King, and her valiant Nutcracker doll. The session included a chair-based dance workshop, clips of the ballet on stage and a Christmas carol sing-along, truly enjoyed by all.
Mulled wine and mince pies
Here at Adlington Manor we organised a Christmas themed day with a variety of interesting activities.
In the morning our residents, with the help of the team, got involved in a mince pie baking session. The traditional pies were filled with a mixture of dried fruits and spices and specially decorated by the residents.
In the afternoon, we held a mince pie tasting session, where our residents enjoyed the delicious pies along with mulled wine and special Christmas cocktails, such as Classic Eggnog, Brandy Alexander, Mulled wine with figs and Old fashion Snowball Cocktail.
A lovely time was had by all.
Christmas truffles
We had a lovely time joining Paul Hawkins and Steve Wilkes from Unilever for an exciting immersive Christmas experience.
Our residents were welcomed with chocolate treats as Paul and Steve took them on an exciting chocolate truffle making and biscuit decorating journey.
To finish off the Christmas special event, our residents enjoyed a themed quiz and a singalong.
We all had a wonderful time.
Christmas traditions
Christmas traditions - Christmas isn't the same without cakes – now it's the turn of our homes to continue the tradition that's been 500 years in the baking! This Noël, Barchester’s Christmas Cake Competitions set the challenge of creating a cake that's fit for kings, be it an angel, apple, bakewell or banana, or even the classic Christmas fruitcake.
The residents of Adlington Manor donned their aprons, popped on the carols and whipped up a mighty fine entry and have a lot of fun at the same time.
National Elf Day
We swapped our uniforms for costumes on National Elf Day in an effort to raise funds to help people living with dementia.
Launched by the Alzheimer’s Society and delivered directly from the North Pole, Elf Day was created to sprinkle some festive cheer on fundraising towards finding a cure for dementia.
We were able to enjoy elf-themed games, quizzes and delicious sweet and savoury treats, prepared by our talented chef.
