Activities at Adlington Manor Care Home
Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.
Lynne Bowler
I joined the activities team at Adlington Manor in May 2017. Previously, I have worked as a tree surgeon and have had heavy involvement with the Guides and Brownies. I love participating in activities with residents, whether that's by driving the minibus on trips outside the home, or by engaging in themed days.
I am passionate about my role and especially the challenge of coming up with new ways to engage as many residents as possible in our activities here.

Life at Adlington Manor Care Home
Super Hero's for World Book Day
Bookshelves were bulging at Adlington Manor care home in Adlington where book worm residents were keen to get involved in World Book Day.
Staff and residents at Adlington Manor care home decided to host a discussion about residents’ favourite books and staff to the delight of residents dressed up as ‘Super Hero’ characters. It was a fun-filled day for all!
Della, the Activities Co-ordinator at the home commented: “Our residents all love to read and to discuss their favourite books so World Book Day is a fantastic opportunity for us all to spend the day with our noses in our favourite books. We also had a great debate about reading from print or electronically from a tablet, there were strong arguments from both camps!”
A touch of Magic
Adlington Manor Care Home in Adlington has recently brought a bit of magic to residents by providing a new ‘Magic Table 360 and the Happiness Programme’ as a way to improve residents’ quality of life.
Designed and manufactured in the UK, the Magic Table 360 uses interactive games to connect residents with staff and with each other, and research shows it improves the wellbeing of people living with dementia. Using interactive light projections, the Magic Table 360, which can be played independently or in a group, stimulates movement by inviting participants to take part in all sorts of different fun activities such as popping bubbles, playing the piano, colouring in pictures, sweeping leaves or interacting playfully with fish. Games are rich in colour, movement and detail, and allow people of all ages to play in a safe and comfortable environment.
The Magic Table 360 is portable so it can be used wherever residents feel most comfortable, it can be projected onto the floor, ceiling, walls, a whiteboard or even the bed. The Happiness Programme allows for a range of games that change seasonally and have country-specific versions covering 14 different categories, so there will always be something new for residents to try.
Everyone looks to the future after vaccine
Staff and residents at Adlington Manor chose to celebrate their recent vaccinations with a twist as they remembered their favourite things and look forward to the future, one resident chose a strawberry as she is looking forward to being able to spend those long summer days in the sun enjoying strawberries and cream with family and friends again in the homes beautiful courtyard.
Father Christmas
Father Christmas has come to visit – and he had as cleverly grown his beard over his mask! Father Chrisman’s also delivered greetings from Buckingham Palace as our residents had sent her majesty Christmas Greetings. Santa gave out the presents before continuing his journey and everyone at the home would like to wish everyone a happy and safe Christmas.
'Tis the season to be jolly!
Residents of Adlington Manor are all ready for Christmas, the stockings are hanging around the fireplace in anticipation of Santa arriving and everyone is in the festive spirit. Residents have made their colourful stockings and are delighted with the finished results. Once hung, residents sat down to enjoy delicious homemade mince pies and a glass of their favourite tipple, sherry especially prepared by the homes hospitality team.
National Elf Day
Here at Adlington Manor our Elves were hard at work for National Elf Day. The day consisted of Elf games, Elf bingo and Elf dancing, all followed by a glass of mulled wine, a mince pie and a Christmas movie. It was a fun-filled day for everyone as residents countdown to Christmas.
