Activities at Adlington Manor Care Home
Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.
Lynne Bowler
I joined the activities team at Adlington Manor in May 2017. Previously, I have worked as a tree surgeon and have had heavy involvement with the Guides and Brownies. I love participating in activities with residents, whether that's by driving the minibus on trips outside the home, or by engaging in themed days.
I am passionate about my role and especially the challenge of coming up with new ways to engage as many residents as possible in our activities here.

Nutrition and Hydration Week
We celebrated Nutrition and Hydration Week in style with a variety of delicious and healthy meals and beverages, alongside engaging activities.
During the week, our talented chef prepared nutritious sweet and savoury treats, super snacks, smoothies and fruit salads.
Our residents got involved in food tasting and cocktail making activities, cookery sessions and we all had fun submitting our entries for the Nutrition and Hydration competition, organised by Barchester’s Hospitality Team.
Evacuees and Espionage
Ahead of Armed Forces Day, we were transported back in time for a World War II themed talk and tour of Blenheim Palace, hosted by Antonia Keaney, the Palace’s social historian and author.
Entitled ‘Evacuees and Espionage,’ Antonia’s wartime themed talk focused on how the Marlborough family, estate staff and the Palace itself played a full and energetic part in the war effort.
The talk and tour told the story of how the Palace prepared for the worst, survived the onslaught of 400 boys being evacuated to Blenheim and kept the secrets of MI5.
It was a lovely experience, enjoyed by all.
Fun at the races!
We marked the annual Royal Ascot races in style as we dressed to impress, put on our favourite hats and we used our gaming money to place our winning bets.
Our residents enjoyed the event from the comfort of the home, we watched the races, had conversations about the Royal Ascot fashion and celebrated the occasion with a glass of fizz and delicious treats.
Our ladies enjoyed a special pampering session and had their hair and make-up done.
We all had great fun.
Magical Moments
Keeping active is important to our residents here at Adlington Manor and as part of the homes life enrichment programme we provided a varied calendar of exercise, with Magical Moments a firm favourite. Each session focuses on mobility and movement to music with residents actively joining in. It is a fun-filled session for all before sitting back to enjoy refreshments.
Hereford Cathedral virtual tour
We had a lovely time joining the team from Hereford Cathedral for an exciting virtual session.
We enjoyed a glimpse of this spectacular building and its treasures in a series of short pre-recorded videos. From the stunning gardens which lead down to the River Wye, to the Mappa Mundi and Chained Library.
It was wonderful to learn more about the history and beauty of Hereford Cathedral.
Chippy tea's all round!
Staff and residents at Barchester’s Adlington Manor care home in Cheshire had a fantastic time celebrating National Fish & Chip Day on Fryday 4th June, surely one of the best days of the year!
Kitchen staff whipped up a selection of different flavoured batters for residents to try along with some home-made tartare sauce and mushy peas, everyone had a great time guessing the different batter ingredients. The sun was shining so residents took to the garden to eat their fish and chips in newspaper (waxed paper) in a basket . Later on they enjoyed a quiz where they were tested on fun fish & chip facts.
Deputy Manager, Danielle, said: “It wasn’t just the residents that were excited when we found out there was a National Fish & Chip Day, the eyes of all our staff lit up too – fish & chips are such an iconic dish, everyone loves them and it’s even better when there is a good excuse to eat them!”
