Activities at Alice Grange Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Penny Allen

Lead Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Penny and I am the Lead Activities Coordinator here at Alice Grange.

I have many years of experience working in care homes in Activities, leisure and lifestyle roles.

I love being part of the Alice Grange team and supporting our residents to live their best lives with fun, interesting, and varied activities available every week. I always feel that the residents' input into our weekly planner is important as it gives all residents equal opportunity to explore new interests as well as keeping up with previous passions and hobbies.

Residents ambassador

We have celebrated a very special person! Our Margaret- Residents ambassador, was designated as the best resident ambassador in the Barchester Central Division. Margaret was so surprised, as you can see on the picture! Now, she is one of 4 other ambassadors to compete for the title of The Resident Ambassador of the Year. For us, she is an absolute star! Always kind and warm, very supportive and happy to help. We love her personality, great sense of humour but mostly, that she always put others first! World would be much better place with more people like Margaret around.

Simon Brett

We had a great visitor- Simon Brett, the novelist. It’s truly unbelievable but he already published 130 novels! What a treat to get to know such a person. He read for us bits of his work. It turned up that he has great sense of humour too! We truly enjoyed that visit, and having a chat with such a brilliant person. He was so kind, patient and lovely warm to us all.

Strawberry picking

We have visited Friday Street Farm to pick our own strawberries. What a fun that was to pick them up and eat them straight from the plant! We haven’t done it for ages!  As a little treat after the hard work, we enjoyed great hot drinks and absolutely brilliant cheesy scones in the local café. We ate all we have picked while reading poetry. Oh gosh, you can get hungry then!

Felixstowe In The Sunshine

We enjoyed a wonderful trip out to Felixstowe this week. The weather was amazing and we made the most of it by walking down the sea front, enjoyed coffee and ice-cream sat in the sunshine, and explored the beautiful town of Felixstowe.

We are planning to get out and about as much as possible during the summer, so keep your eyes open for our minibus and please stop and say hi when you see us!

Jubilee Gardening

To celebrate the Jubilee our residents have been inspired to create different arrangements of flowers; the jars were colourful with a combination of strong and light colours mixed with leaves which were taken from our beautiful garden. Doing the arrangements in floral foam were special, residents shared their gardening experiences, one lady said people don’t need to think how to decorate, it is better just do it and then you can reorganise if you don’t like the decoration already made.

As everybody agreed, lavender is perfect for floral foam, even though it is a light flower, its stem is strong enough to put into floral foam and looks beautiful as a spray around the arrangement (they look like stars). Talking about peonies, we agreed that these flowers look glamorous in any arrangements.

Now to the garden; some residents have spent their time digging the soil, planting flowers and watering regularly. Our fountain planter was planted with blue perennials and begonias by Leonard and Mary. Mary also mixed flowers in an another pot. With Tom’s help, we also planted more flowers in the raised beds.
