Activities at Appletree Grange Care Home
Our Activities Coordinator is constantly arranging new activities to stimulate and catch the imagination of our residents. From visiting entertainers to a regular craft table to outings on the minibus, there is always something for our residents to keep them entertained. Our Activities Coordinator also takes the time to sit with each resident and go through a life history so they get to know what the likes and dislikes of each individual are and can tailor the activities to suit them. A monthly residents meeting is held to get the views of the residents and to get suggestions from them and their families about what they would like to do and everything that can be done to accommodate their requests is done.
Christina Curtis
Hi, my name is Christina and I am the activities coordinator here at Appletree Grange. I joined both Barchester and the home in July 2024. We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within the home and we will work together to give residents the best possible experience.
We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centered program of events and activities. Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents and their families and friends
Read our brochure 'Life-enriching activities' for more information about life in our care homes.

The Appletree Olympics
The Appletree olympic team were in full force recently, putting their skills to the test with hook-a-duck, bowling and plenty of other fun games. All residents who participated were presented with their medals and the overall winner received a trophy.
Musical Memories
Kayley Cares came to Appletree on 2nd April; she was fantastic and all the residents enjoyed singing and dancing along to her music.
Pony Therapy
The ponies visited Appletree for a bit of pet therapy on Friday 29th March. Residents made a fuss of them and everyone agreed that they can't wait to have them back!
Another 5 Stars
Head Chef, Michael Brooks, has recently been awarded a 5 star rating by Environmental Health, for the 14th year running!
Michael takes great pride in cooking fresh, tasty and wholesome food for the residents. He ensures all the catering team are trained to a high standard and conducts regular training with the team.
Michael is pictured above being presented with champagne and is delighted that he will also be receiving a gift from Irene Lewis and the Hospitality Team.
Appletree Choir
Residents from Appletree Grange recently performed at the Sage in Gateshead over Easter as part of the Gateshead Choir, which is made up of care home residents and carers throughout the district. The singers have been preparing for the big performance since October last year, and it was a huge success.
Long Service Award
Appletree Grange had the pleasure of celebrating a Long Service Award recently. Vera Butt, Senior Carer, has been at Appletree for 30 years, which we think is amazing. Vera is a much-loved member of our team, so we want to say a massive 'congratulations' to her for reaching this astounding milestone.
