Activities at Arbour Court Care Home
Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a variety of activities and events for all residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus, visits from entertainers and musicians and small group and individual activities in quiet yet stimulating environments. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect resident individual interests as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.
Aimee Pickford
Hi, my name is Aimee and I'm the Activities Co-ordinator & Dementia Champion here at Arbour Court. In 2019 I received my Level 3 Health and Social Care and decided I wanted to help and enrich the lives of others.
I started working at Arbour Court in January 2021 as a Care Assistant and progressed to be a Senior Carer. In October 2023 I moved onto the activities team as an Activities Team Leader. I love my role as one of our homes Activities Co-ordinators and love to find new and exciting ways to engage our residents.
I am also a Dementia Champion and work closely with our General Manager, Lisa and other Dementia Champions to implement Barchester's Dementia Framework within the home.
Being part of Arbour Court's family is very rewarding and I feel lucky to work in a great environment.

Life at Arbour Court Care Home
Home celebrate 10-years long service
A Chef at Arbour Court in Marple has received a prestigious 10 Year Service Award in celebration of working at Barchester Healthcare for 10 years.
Anna, now chef started at Barchester in March 2012 and has worked with residents and their relatives to ensure that their needs have been met over the years.
Theatre inspired virtual talk
We had a lovely time joining Angela Cobbin for a theatre-inspired virtual talk about her book ‘My Name is Not Wigs’. ‘My Name Is Not Wigs’ is the ultimate read for fans of witty behind-the-curtains memoirs, especially those with a penchant for the bright lights of stage and screen: tears and accolades aplenty!
Angela shared interesting facts with our residents about her book, her life and her experiences as a wig creator in London’s West End in celebration of World Theatre Day. All in all the afternoon was an absolute triumph!
Crufts
Rocky the rescue chiwawa came to visit and give his gentle cuddles. It’s so lovely to see our residents interacting and engaging with animals. We even got out for walks with him and it was lovely to hear our residents talk about their own pets from their younger days.
Spring planning
Our residents love nothing more than a walk around our beautiful garden. They love to check on the flowers and make plans for the spring through to the summer. They find it very therapeutic and relaxing and a time to think and talk the hours away.
Inside Cliveden
We were treated to an amazing live virtual talk and a tour of Cliveden, hosted by the house and chapel guides from the National Trust Talks Service.
The volunteers kindly gave us a tour around the famous house taking an in-depth look at Cliveden’s many stories from its 350 year history, from devilish dukes to scandalous headlines and boundary-breaking garden designs to political notoriety.
Starting with the Duke of Buckingham who built the first house in 1666, our residents met the key owners who helped shape the house and its gardens including the Orkney, Sutherland and Astor families.
The talk was accompanied by an illustrated presentation which brought to life these individuals and showed how their influence at Cliveden still continues today.
Valentine treats
We celebrated Valentines with an array of love themed activities from our ‘hearts and crafts’ session which was very popular, we created beautiful love hears to send to our loved ones, a themed menu especially prepared by our homes hospitality team to live entertainment by vocalists, Sam Jones and Musical Delights. It was a fun-filled day!
