Activities at Archview Lodge Care Home

Residents at Archview took advantage of the recent glorious weather to take a mini bus trip to enjoy a refreshing ice-cream at Mussleburgh.   Musselburgh is a historic town in East Lothian, well known for golf, and its racecourse. The name, Musselburgh, derives from the extensive mussel beds which lie along its shore on the Firth of Forth 

We enjoyed a wonderful virtual introduction to the world of robots with V&A Dundee Curator, Kirsty Hassard.

Kirsty talked us through the history of robots and their early beginnings, the presentation traced the fascination of all things wired and wonderful and considered what the future might hold for our relationship with a multitude of mechanical machines.

It was absolutely thrilling to learn what robots can do now and what they might be able to do in the future.

We celebrated Nutrition and Hydration Week in style with a variety of delicious and healthy meals and beverages, alongside engaging activities.

During the week, our talented chef prepared nutritious sweet and savoury treats, super snacks, smoothies and fruit salads.

Our residents got involved in food tasting and cocktail making activities, cookery sessions and we all had fun submitting our entries for the Nutrition and Hydration competition, organised by Barchester’s Hospitality Team.

Residents at Archview love their games sessions and as the sun shone, they took their bowls outside for a game of outdoor bowling in the homes garden, there was a little friendly competition before everyone settled back to enjoy a refreshing ice-lolly.

Residents at Archview run by Barchester Healthcare, are celebrating National Carers’ Week, which takes place from June 7-13. Residents wanted to thank all the wonderful staff at the home, whose hard work and dedication make a real difference to the lives of those living in their care.

Carers Week is an annual event to raise awareness of caring, highlighting the challenges carers face, and recognising the contribution they make to our residents, families and communities throughout the UK. The theme for Carers Week this year is ‘Making caring visible and valued’ - to shine a light on all those who work tirelessly behind the scenes to care for vulnerable people in our communities.

There were smiles all round at Archview as live entertainers were allowed to perform in the garden once again for staff and residents who can really enjoyed the show.

Just like the rest of the country, Government guidelines for care homes are starting to relax and performers can now entertain residents again safely in outdoor spaces.

Sarah Thomson, General Manager at Archview commented: “It is great to be able to open up our gardens again and have some live entertainment for our residents.  We have really missed being able to welcome performers into our home during lockdown, although we’ve had lots of virtual concerts, quizzes and talks.  It’s lovely to be able to host events in the garden again now that lockdown is easing and the weather is getting warmer.”
