Activities at Ashby House Care Home
Activities at Ashby House
Our Activities Coordinators are constantly striving to enrich peoples lives here at Ashby House. We stimulate people both physically and mentally by organising fun filled, group and individual activities to promote the well-being of those we support.
There are regular outings in our very own minibus and visits from PAT dog therapists, church services, musicians, dancers, and local school children. We also have our very own 'Good Life' gardening club, where we grow our own produce, which we then use in our cooking club. We also host weekly bingo sessions which are proving very popular and are growing in numbers.
Read our brochure 'Life-enriching activities' for more information about life in our care homes.

Life at Ashby House Care Home
Donkey Sanctuary
Staff and residents across our services were treated to a virtual tour of The Donkey Sanctuary Manchester, hosted by Centre Manager, Melanie McComb.
Residents joined Melanie live from Manchester to get an inside look into the daily care for the herd of donkeys that live at the Sanctuary and meet some of the fantastic characters there; namely Henry and his friend Tiny Tim. They learned how the Donkey Sanctuary was first created by Dr Elisabeth Svendsen MBE back in 1969 and the first donkey that started off all of her important work and how her legacy continues today.
Melanie says: “It was wonderful to be able to show the Barchester residents around the Donkey Sanctuary here in Manchester and to share the work we do. We were so happy to be able to show the residents our wonderful donkeys and talk about how we rescue and care for them.”
Home celebrating 30th anniversary
Excitement is building at Barchester’s Ashby House Care Home on Chadwick Drive in Eaglestone, Milton Keynes as staff and residents get ready to celebrate their 30th anniversary!
Parent company, Barchester Healthcare, who run Ashby House, started out in 1992 with just one care home, Moreton Hill, in Stonehouse, Gloucestershire. Fast forward 30 years and Barchester is now the second largest care home company in the UK with 250 care homes and private hospitals all over the country.
Trip to local garden centre
You can tell that Christmas is coming as shops have all their Christmas decorations and displays up already. On our trip to Dobbie’s we enjoyed looking at all of their wonderful Christmas decorations, our residents loved it, really getting us in the Christmas spirit. We will be going back in December to buy some festive flowers.
Autumn photo shoot
We set up an area in our home and decorated it for a seasonal Autumnal photo shoot. Residents really enjoyed doing this and have asked to do a festive photoshoot for Christmas time!
Sensory lavender bags
We enjoyed making our own lavender bags for our residents this month. Firstly some of our residents helped pick the fresh Lavender from our Sensory Garden, we really enjoyed this part, getting residents outside in the fresh air and the smell from the Lavender was amazing.
We then filled our organza bags, and now our residents all have their own bags in their rooms.
Autumnal Arts
Residents have been getting creative making some lovely Autumnal cards and wreaths for our Harvest Display we will have on display in our home. Here we are enjoying Leaf Printing.
