Activities at Ashcombe House Care Home
Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.
Michelle Martin
I’m a fun, loud and outgoing individual who loves organising fun activities for residents at Ashcombe House (and staff, if possible). I’m very creative and keep the residents very active, both mentally and physically In my spare time, I love doing a lot of fundraising, which usually ends up with me sliding in mud.

Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Ashcombe House Care Home
Hawaii BBQ
The sun was shining, the garden was decorated and residents enjoyed a fun-filled afternoon. The Pimm's was chilled and the BBQ was lit and we all tucked into pork loins, garlic chicken, burgers and a variety of salads, finishing with a fresh fruit platter and ice cream all round. Residents really got into the spirit of things with flowers and bright coloured clothing. We even had a prize raffle to end the day.
National Picnic Week
Although we are unable to currently visits parks, residents didn’t let this stop them enjoying a feast of a picnic to celebrate National Picnic Week. A selection of sandwiches, sausage rolls, mini sausages and fresh fruit were served in the garden. Many residents enjoyed a little tipple and reminisced about past picnics with family and friends.
Carers Week
Residents joined in to thank carers for all the friendship, help and support they give each to them every day. The team were treated to takeaway pizzas to say thank you for all their hard work before fun & games commenced. Hosted by General Manager, Louise Lambert, the afternoon was filled with laughter as the team all learnt something new about their colleagues! Residents made a display for the carers and gave out certificates of thanks and wristbands to show their appreciation for the care they receive.
Hen Party
The homes administrator Karina had to postpone her wedding due to the corona virus, so we decided to throw her a surprise Hen Party BBQ. Spread out across the garden to keep to social distancing advice, residents enjoyed wearing hen party accessories, a fabulous BBQ ,playing Bridal Bingo and learning all about our fabulous Karina. For most it was the first time they have been to a hen party, and they are already looking forward to the real thing next year!
International Nurses Day
The nurses here are simply the best, even during these challenging times they always manage to smile and spend time with residents. To show our nurses they are so very appreciated, we presented them with Certificates and boxes of Chocolates to show them just how much we care.
VE Day 75th Anniversary
The local community really came together and sent in homemade bunting and decorations for our home to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of VE Day. The ‘land army girls’ (Home Manager Louise and activities' Michelle) served traditional British fish and chips to residents. Resident Eric Kitchen was a signalman in the Royal Navy, and his family popped up the drive to wave flags on this special day. Abiding by the social distancing rules, residents spread out across the garden to enjoy War time music and quiz in the afternoon. Ex Servicemen and women shared stories of war whilst others remembered being evacuated. We all stopped at 3pm for Churchill’s Speech and raised a cup of tea for all those Heroes who gave their lives so we could have ours.
