Activities at Ashcombe House Care Home
Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.
Michelle Martin
I’m a fun, loud and outgoing individual who loves organising fun activities for residents at Ashcombe House (and staff, if possible). I’m very creative and keep the residents very active, both mentally and physically In my spare time, I love doing a lot of fundraising, which usually ends up with me sliding in mud.

Extra special Seaside trip
Residents enjoyed a mystery minibus trip to Southsea, planned for one of our residents Gerry Godden who had lived in Portsmouth for over 90 years before moving to Basingstoke to be near family. Residents enjoyed crabbing and catching small fish at the boating lake before taking a walk down Southsea promenade before stopping for fish and chips on the pier. Gerry said “ It’s been a truly fantastic day; I’ve enjoyed every minute and its nice be back home”. To be able to take Gerry back to his hometown, he really didn’t think he would ever see the sea again really made this an extra special day. All residents enjoyed a whippy ice cream before heading back home exhausted but happy.
End of summer showdown
The home hosted an end of summer showdown fete for residents families, friends and the local community. The garden was decorated and stalls all set up before the heavens opened and the rain poured!! We didn’t let this spoil any fun and took the party inside, guests enjoyed a BBQ lunch, tombola nd grand prize raffle before being entertained by Tony Allgood who really kept the party going. A truly wonderful afternoon spent and enjoyed by all.
Park Lifew
A warm sunny day and we headed out in the homes minibus to Eastrop Park. Residents enjoyed a stroll around the ponds to feed the ducks. The local Model Boating club was at one of the ponds with model boats of all sizes, residents were welcomed by the club and were able to watch the motorised boats sailing across the waters. At the park there is a small paddling pool and little children were having great fun splashing their parents much to the delight of our residents. Lots of wildlife and plants to identify it was a lovely afternoon out.
Sing a long
Residents enjoyed a visit from Natalia and her accordion. Performing hits through he years residents were singing along to some well know tunes. Music really lifts the home and fills the corridors and is enjoyed by everyone.
Garden Centre Trip
All aboard the homes minibus for a trip to the garden centre. Residents enjoyed browsing the various gifts and trinkets in the shop before venturing outside to choose some plants for the homes gardens. It was a lovely sunny day and everyone enjoyed a day out and we even popped in the café for a milkshake before heading home.
Pamper Session
Our wonderful volunteer Lola regularly comes to the home and is always busy making residents smile. Lola set up a manicure station for residents. Ladies were treated to a Hand massage, nails filed and offered a selection of colours to have their nails painted.
Everyone always feels better after a bit of pampering and Lola really is a ray of sunshine when she comes to the home.
