Activities at Ashlar House Care Home
Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.
Rita Green
As the Community Engagement Lead and Lifestyle Coordinator, I will be spending time with each resident and their loved ones to build a detailed picture of each individual, so that each person’s stay with us is as meaningful as possible. Although I have been working within this field for many years, thanks to the uniqueness of each resident, I am always enjoying new experiences in my role. My goal is to create an activities programme that caters to the capabilities of residents, including, but not limited to, individual and group activity.
I've spent the past few years forging strong relationships within the community and developing a pool of talented individuals that can support our in-house team to bring out the best in those we care for.
As we never stop growing and changing, it is important that we maintain an up-to-date Getting To Know Me booklet. With your help, the activities scheduled for your loved ones will be as relevant and enjoyable as possible.
I’m very much looking forward to working with all of you.

Life at Ashlar House Care Home
Book Lovers Day
Today we introduced an event which we hope will become a regular activity for our residents, Book Lovers Day. Dozens of books were made available to our residents who broke into small groups to read and discuss the books.
Those who are less able we assisted by carers and loved ones. The open discussions were very interesting invoking memories and excitement of books read and those on people's bucket lists. It was a great experiece where residents had the chance to share their passion for books.
Summer Fête
It was that special time of the year where we open our doors and invite friends, family and members of the public to our Summer Fête.
This year, the Coopersale Hall School FOCH group kindly donated some of their games for the occasion, including ring toss, duck hook, toilet roll throw and tin alley, which were a lot of fun for the kids in attendance. Other returning favourites included the fresh lemonade stand’, the BBQ and market stalls.
This year our good friends at Let’s Go Potty came with an assortment of figurines, which several of our visitors painted, whilst others, including the honourable Mayor of Epping, cut a rug to the live music performed by Darrell Williams.
Many of our residents joined in with the festivities, or simply spent time with loved ones in the idyllic setting of our peaceful garden space.
It was a fun and memorable day for all!
Professional Open Day
Our 'Professional Open Day' saw many professionals within our local community visit our home. The main agenda was open discussions with regards to supporting residents and their loved ones. The day was also National Cream Tea Day, and to commemorate such an auspicious day in our calendar, we treated our residents and their families, as well as visiting professionals, to a myriad of cream tea treats. It was an informative and fun day for all!
Father's Day
Many residents celebrated Father's Day together with their children and grandchildren. On this special day Ashlar House was visited by the town Mayor, who came to congratulate all fathers and to enjoy his own 70th birthday in the company of residents and staff. It was a fun day for everyone.
Ascot Ladies Day
Ascot Ladies Day brought a touch of elegance to Ashlar House, as the ladies and some of the gents donned their finest head wear to get into the mood.
Pygmy Goats and Chicks
Bradwell Trout Farm visited our home, bringing with them a collection of Pygmy Goats and adorable chicks. Some of our residents were able to interact with the our guests in the communal areas, whist others preferred personal visits in their rooms.
To further our community efforts we were also accompanied by Bright Horizon nursery and their children, who came to spend time with residents and of course the cute goats and chicks. A fun and memorable day for all... even the goats.
