Activities at Awel-Y-Mor Care Home
Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.
Jo & Julie
Awel-Y-Mor's activities team consists of three Activities Coordinators, each having a specialist unique role within the group, including work in the multi-sensory concept, as well as organising days out, trips to sporting events and pop concerts, and arranging themed days. Jo has been with us for over ten years, beginning her Barchester career as a Carer, and Julie joined us in 2018.

Coffee Mornings
We have regular coffee mornings on Friday's at our home, where residents and guests are able to enjoy a selection of homemade cakes. Recently, residents joined in with their wonderful baked creations- Friday's have never tasted as good!
Gardening Angels
Residents at Awel-Y-Mor have made the most of the warm weather by helping out in the sensory garden and planting & weeding, ready for the summer months.
Restaurant Evening
The Grand National came to Awel-Y-Mor and a galloping good time was had by all! The evening was a great success, the food was lovely and we had a great entertainer, who had everybody dancing' til late into the night. There was plenty of horsing around and the stable shut at midnight.
Out & About
Two gentleman from Awel-Y-Mor enjoyed their day out in Swansea, where The Man Engine visited 8 of South Wales’s most important industrial heritage sites, meeting key historical characters on his route, celebrating the achievements and commemorating the sacrifices of Wales’ industrial past.
Easter Celebrations
Residents enjoyed making their hats during one of our Easter-themed arts and crafts sessions. There were a lot of feathers flying around, chicks hatching and plenty of laughs – and chocolate being eaten too!
On Good Friday, we held an Easter-themed coffee morning for residents, staff and loved ones; everyone enjoyed the cakes, chocolate eggs and hot chocolate, tea and coffee.
A family member and her granddaughter judged the Easter hats and the winner received a large egg as a victory prize.
Sport Relief
We celebrated Sport Relief at Awel-Y-Mor by doing a bike challenge, with residents, staff, guests and family members all participating.
Lee Trundle, Disability Ambassador for Swansea City Football Club, visited us and cycled 15 kilometres, in addition to spending time with residents and signing autographs.
The total amount of miles cycled was 517 and, in total, we managed to raise £100.
