Activities at Camellia House Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.
Linda Wilkie
I have worked in this home for nearly 30 years, so it is very much part of my life. I started as a part-time Domestic when my children were small and, as time has gone by, I have become a Senior Carer and the Activities Coordinator.
I have NAPA and OOMPH qualifications, as well as an NVQ Level 3 Health and Social Care.
I am very passionate about my role, as it is very important to us as a team that every individual is able to live the life they wish, feeling fulfilled in their mind, body and soul, maintaining past hobbies, yet have the opportunity to try new experiences.
I have built up a very good rapport with our team, our residents, family and friends, and I have built many links with the local community, which all help the residents get the most out of life at Camellia House.
I enjoy every day; the smiles on the faces I see are reward for doing a job I love.

Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Camellia House Care Home
Musical Magic
Residents and guests at Camellia House enjoyed an afternoon of grins with a live music performance that took place at the home. Local duo, 'Something Else', performed a selection of classic hits, including 'Under the Boardwalk' and 'Memories are Made of This'. Residents joined in with the singing, and clapped along as the duo performed.
Doing the Robot
Staff and residents were treated to a talk about robots past, present and future by V&A Dundee Curator, Kirsty Hassard. The presentation forms part of a series of six talks and virtual tours that V&A Dundee is hosting for Barchester Healthcare’s care homes and private hospitals across the UK.
V&A Dundee is Scotland’s design museum, it showcases Scotland’s outstanding design achievements and features world-class exhibitions alongside the permanent Scottish Design Galleries, and a changing programme of commissions, events and activities.
Kirsty’s presentation spanned many years, from robots’ early beginnings as the stuff of pure science fiction, it traced our fascination of all things wired and wonderful and moved on to cover how robots are helping people all around the world and even shaping our future.
Life's a Picnic
Camellia House went all out for International Picnic Week.
Residents were invited to pull up a chair on the home’s neatly mowed lawn and enjoy a picnic lunch. A whole host of freshly baked treats made by chef Aiden Sibthorpe helped to get the party started.
Hampers were packed to the brim with Salmon, quiches, salad and accompaniments, strawberries, cream and ice cream, for residents to enjoy al fresco. The fun didn’t stop there as some of the other delights on offer included a delicious elderflower cordial that the residents had made themselves.
The fabulous Fab Boys singing duo entertained us with a mix of tunes from the '60s and '70s.
Virtual Bingo
We enjoyed a virtual session with Sophie, the Community Champion at Asda. The residents had a great time winning prizes that were donated by Asda.
Carers Week
Camellia House held a day of celebrations to thank care staff at the home, who make a real difference to the lives of those in their care.
Staff were treated to goody bags and a finger buffet, and fabulous cake was provided by Dan, one of our catering team members.
Residents also gave thanks by making thank you cards and making pottery gifts for their carers. Staff also sent thank you cards to friends of Camellia House who have been unable to visit due to lockdown, but who gave so much support to residents and carers in the home.
Resident Jean read a poem to the carers thanking them for their kindness and support and how they make a difference to each day.
Flower Power
Residents really enjoyed a wonderful flower arranging experience here at Camellia House.
