Activities at Camellia House Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.
Linda Wilkie
I have worked in this home for nearly 30 years, so it is very much part of my life. I started as a part-time Domestic when my children were small and, as time has gone by, I have become a Senior Carer and the Activities Coordinator.
I have NAPA and OOMPH qualifications, as well as an NVQ Level 3 Health and Social Care.
I am very passionate about my role, as it is very important to us as a team that every individual is able to live the life they wish, feeling fulfilled in their mind, body and soul, maintaining past hobbies, yet have the opportunity to try new experiences.
I have built up a very good rapport with our team, our residents, family and friends, and I have built many links with the local community, which all help the residents get the most out of life at Camellia House.
I enjoy every day; the smiles on the faces I see are reward for doing a job I love.

Life at Camellia House Care Home
Decimal Day
Residents at Camellia House have been enjoying a museum in a box, supplied by the Royal Mint Museum to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Decimal Day.
We enjoy providing a variety of different activities for our residents and this box has been a sensory delight for our residents, from the feel of the old coins to hearing stories on the electronic box. It has brought about many memories and sparked lots of lovely conversations.
International Nurses' Day
Coinciding with the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing, International Nurses' Day, held on Wednesday 12th May, is a day to celebrate nurses and care staff around the world.
Residents and staff at Camellia House were happy to get involved by hosting a day filled with activities on a nursing theme, including a ceremony to thank our nurses and a trip to Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow to drop off goody bags to the Nurses working in the Accident and Emergency Department.
A Royal Celebration
We had a wonderful afternoon tea and a visit from Her Royal Highness.
4 Little Ducklings
Residents recently enjoyed a delivery of eggs to hatch from Incredible Eggs, an ethical farming company concerned with the safeguarding and bio-diversity of heritage breeds and promoting non-intensive, high-welfare farming practices.
In these unprecedented times, ensuring residents feel engaged and connected with the outside world and nature is paramount. Our residents really enjoyed watching as the eggs hatched, nurturing and tending to them each day and especially cuddling them.
We are the proud 'parents' of 4 chicks and 4 ducklings, who bring so much joy and hilarity, especially at swimming time.
The Big Easter Quiz
We got ready for Easter by joining a virtual afternoon of chocolate-fuelled fun, along with the staff and residents at over seventy Barchester care homes across the south of England, Jersey and the Isle of Wight.
Camellia House’s staff and residents put on their best Easter bonnets and broke out the Easter eggs for an afternoon of fun activities, culminating in the Barchester Big Easter Quiz when they linked up with all the other Barchester homes in the south of the country. When they weren’t quizzing, residents enjoyed a feast of seasonal Easter dishes prepared by the home’s chef, Trudy Presland.
Easter Celebrations
Residents enjoyed an eggs-tensive range of Easter activities, a favourite being the visit of a newborn lamb from Green End Farm, kindly lent to us by our friend Posy Hill-Williams. All the residents got to see the lamb and it was very emotional; it gave us such hope for the better times to come.
As always, we’ve all been looking forward to Easter. It’s such a nice time of the year – the residents love all the colourful Easter eggs and just adored the little lamb. It’s really been an eggs-cellent few days!
