Activities at Cherry Trees Care Home
Our activities team are constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we support by organising group and individual social events for anyone and everyone to participate in. There are regular outings in the minibus to nearby places of interest, including the local theatre, as well as visits from Pat dogs, musicians and entertainers. We also host bingo, quiz and knitter natter afternoons that we encourage relatives and the local community to attend. Our Gentleman's Club is also open to non-residents every Thursday afternoon from 2:30pm, join us for a tipple of your choice, we have plenty of snacks and chats. For the ladies, our beauty salon provides; hairdressing and nail pampering, you too can enjoy a drink and some well-deserved 'me' time. Activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, so it is essential that our team are dedicated to ensuring that residents are entertained, and that life at Cherry Trees is fun and active.
Carly Marshall
Carly joined Cherry Trees in March 2023. Her whole life has been working in the care sector and now as lead activity coordinator, Carly said ‘ I absolutely love my role here. I have a real passion to enrich the lives of our residents and make them as special as they can be. I really love to see the faces of our residents when we make these ideas we have come to life, it’s just a magical and rewarding job and I can honestly say I’ve found my forever home’

Life at Cherry Trees Care Home
Magical Goings On
Residents were spellbound when Magician, Dominic Twose came to visit Cherry Trees. He entertained us with his card tricks and making things disappear. Anthea was amazed when the card she had written her name on appeared in his pocket when she had placed it back into the pack of cards. We were looking very closely but nobody could work out how he did it.
Primary School Visit
On St David’s Day we were visited by pupils from Our Lady’s Catholic Primary School who joined us to do some Welsh themed art work. The residents loved meeting the school children and talking to them about their lives. Our resident, Ann was happy to answer all their questions about her childhood during The Second World War and in turn, the children talked about their hopes and dreams for the future and what they would like to do when they grow up.
Another resident, Eileen had some advice for the children ‘if there’s something you enjoy you’ve got to keep on doing it because one day, you might find you can’t do it anymore.’ We will be doing more activities with Our Lady’s Catholic Primary School over the coming months.
Historic Royal Palaces
Our residents were treated to a special virtual sensory storytelling session. Together with Art Historian Jon Sleigh and the Historic Royal Palaces community team, we explored several royal palaces through the theme of food, dining and celebration!
We enjoyed a fantastic taste-a-long experience from the comfort of our home, from Tudor treats to Stuart sweets. A lovely time was had by all.
Our Resident Bingo Caller
We have a new bingo caller at Cherry Trees. Our resident, Vera used to call bingo in a care home when she was younger and she has volunteered to take up the job at our weekly Wednesday bingo sessions. At Cherry Trees we understand that it is important for our residents to maintain a sense of purpose and we love finding ways for them to take a leading role in things that are going on in the care home.
Valentine's Day Celebrations
Love is always in the air at Cherry Trees but this valentine’s day it was particularly special. Our Trainee Care Practitioner Tehya brought in some beautiful red roses as a gift for our residents. We invited residents’ families to join us for a special valentine’s lunch, specially prepared by our Head Chef and this was followed by fantastic entertainment from Silver Belles Music who sang a selection of classic hits from across the decades.
Memory Lane Exercise Class
Cherry Trees have launched a new exercise class designed for residents on our Memory Lane community. This gentle, seated exercise class is led by Nick from Creative Mobility and is based on principles of Yoga and Tai Chi. It is designed to promote wellbeing and fitness as well as being relaxing. Residents focus on breathing for relaxation as well as leg and arm stretches to improve flexibility and exercises to improve hand strength and coordination. As well as being a good work out it is also great fun.
The class is open to all residents in the home and we also welcome any visitors who would like to join us on Fridays at 11am. We would kindly ask any visitors who wish to attend to call and book in advance.
