Activities at Cherry Trees Care Home
Our activities team are constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we support by organising group and individual social events for anyone and everyone to participate in. There are regular outings in the minibus to nearby places of interest, including the local theatre, as well as visits from Pat dogs, musicians and entertainers. We also host bingo, quiz and knitter natter afternoons that we encourage relatives and the local community to attend. Our Gentleman's Club is also open to non-residents every Thursday afternoon from 2:30pm, join us for a tipple of your choice, we have plenty of snacks and chats. For the ladies, our beauty salon provides; hairdressing and nail pampering, you too can enjoy a drink and some well-deserved 'me' time. Activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, so it is essential that our team are dedicated to ensuring that residents are entertained, and that life at Cherry Trees is fun and active.

Carly joined Cherry Trees in March 2023. Her whole life has been working in the care sector and now as lead activity coordinator, Carly said ‘ I absolutely love my role here. I have a real passion to enrich the lives of our residents and make them as special as they can be. I really love to see the faces of our residents when we make these ideas we have come to life, it’s just a magical and rewarding job and I can honestly say I’ve found my forever home’

Life at Cherry Trees Care Home
Art Club
This month, our Art Club have been working on watercolour paintings with NV Arts and Health. Painting is a great way to relax and focus the mind. Several of our residents have enjoyed painting throughout their lives and so it is important to us that we support them to continue with this hobby and give other residents the chance to try something new.
Scrabble Club
Some of our residents have decided to start a Scrabble Club meeting on a Thursday morning in our Multi-faith Room. Scrabble is a great way to keep the mind active and it’s also a great social activity. We welcome any new residents to come and join us for a game of Scrabble.
RAF Hendon
Across our services we had a lovely time joining Rhiannon Watkinson from the RAF Museum London for an interactive talk exploring the exciting and innovative aviation history of Hendon.
Our residents were able to learn about the first flights from the fields at Hendon, the creation of the London Aerodrome and Battle of Britain pilots who flew from RAF Hendon.
The talk also included photographic and film material from the Museum’s archive. Residents across our homes had a fantastic time and we truly enjoyed the virtual experience.
Wembley Stadium Day Trip
At Cherry Trees we believe in supporting our residents to continue with their hobbies and interests, so when our resident, Joe was able to get tickets to watch his team, Coventry City in the Championship Playoff Final at Wembley Stadium we did everything possible to make sure he could be there. Activities Lead Sally Ashford – Devey and Head of Maintenance Greg Wilk travelled with Joe in the minibus to make sure he made it to the match.
Joe first went to watch Coventry City play in 1963. He was a season ticket holder and he has followed the team throughout his life so it was important that he be there to enjoy the momentous occasion.
Unfortunately the result didn’t go Coventry’s way but Joe has still had a great day and it was an experience that he won’t ever forget.
Pets at the Palaces
Residents across our services had a delightful time during a special virtual sensory storytelling event, led by Art Historian Jon Sleigh from the Historic Royal Palaces.
Jon took us on a journey to discover some of the more unusual and unexpected inhabitants of the palaces and the Tower of London, sharing fascinating stories about the pets at the palaces.
Whilst enjoying the virtual experience, our residents were treated to hot beverages, delicious biscuits, berries and cakes. It was a truly lovely time for all.
Boxing for Fun and Fitness
You’re never too old to take up a new sport and some of our residents have been enjoying doing some boxing training as part of our weekly seated exercise classes with Creative Mobility.
One resident, Marjorie said ‘I never thought I would be doing this but it’s so much fun. It’s really good exercise.’
Our Creative Mobility classes are different every week and offer residents fun and interesting ways to keep fit and to maintain muscle strength and flexibility which is so important as you get older. Above all, the focus is on having fun.
