Activities at Cherry Trees Care Home

We have received such fantastic support over Christmas from the local schools and children.

During December, we received a number of gifts from the community, from mince pies to Christmas cards. Everyone here at Cherry Trees would love to say thank you, especially to Our Lady’s Primary School, Alcester, for performing some amazing carols for us and telling us about the nativity.

We also like to say thank you to Coughton C of E School for these amazing pictures and really kind & thoughtful messages written on them; and lastly to the children of St. Nicholas school for their lovely Christmas card.

On Friday 4th December, we had an amazing time with our big Christmas light switch on. It might have been a bit wet, but we were all feeling festive. The lights are amazing and the residents enjoyed them so much. If you’re in and around Alcester, come by and check them out. 

After the lights were switched on, we all went inside and enjoyed a lovely cup of hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows and warm mince pies.

The staff really pulled together to make this truly spectacular for the residents. Everyone dug deep and raised an amazing £300 for the Christmas tree and the lights. The activities and maintenance team and gardening volunteer really pulled out all the stops putting the lights up and helping the residents feel part of it by getting them involved in making some of the decorations. 

We really are so proud and grateful to have such an amazing team and to be able to give the residents at Cherry Trees the most amazing Christmas!

All the staff got involved with Christmas Jumper Day, and the residents too! Even Crumble the Christmas dog gave us a visit in his Christmas jumper to bring even more festive cheer for the day. 

We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who wore their best woolly knit for the day. Because of you and your jumpers, we can help children all over the world.

Before Remembrance Day, we decided to make some displays of poppies around the home. We created poppy wreathes and hung large ‘Lest We Forget’ flags so that everyone will be able to stop and remember all those who have and are serving their country.

Over Remembrance Day, we as a home took part in 2 two minute silences, one held on the door step on Sunday morning, and the other in the court yard of the building. These were very moving and thoughtful times.

On both days, we watched the services that were on the television and spent time talking about their past and how important it was to remember it. We also watched a wonderful service provided for us by Holy Trinity Church in Stratford-upon-Avon, which was very moving.

Bonfire night went off with a bang this year as we had our first ever fireworks display. We had so much fun watching the fireworks wiz and bang.

The residents got to watch from the comfort of the warm, cosy lounge with a lovely mug of hot chocolate (cream and marshmallows of course provided) or a steaming cup of hot local apple cider.

We also got to enjoy some lovely biscuits that were donated to us by the wonderful people at Rington’s. The residents had such a lovely time and are looking forward to more next year.

Residents had so much fun supporting BBC Children in Need. We spent the morning making Pudsey Bear ears and then watched the BBC TV appeal with school choirs from across the country, and we had fun joining in with the Joe Wicks 24 hour PE challenge. We all had such a fantastic time for a fantastic cause.

The staff supported the cause by wearing yellow and buying some delicious cupcakes that our lovely receptionist Linda made to raise money for this fantastic cause.
