Activities at Cheshire Grange Care Home

The activities team are constantly striving to meet the varied needs of everyone who lives in our home, offering a wide range of group and individual social events. There are regular visits from entertainers, along with craft activities, baking, games & puzzle days and pampering sessions, which fill the week. However, we can always find time for outings and just spending that little bit of special time with residents who enjoy the peace and quiet. We aim to bring the activities to the individual, whilst making it a whole home experience.

Totally ‘Roarsome’ Artwork

This month, World Lion Day, not only gave residents an excuse to watch the Lion King and Born Free, but also to get really creative with an Andy Warhol style piece.

Residents on all communities had a lot of fun creating individual, very colourful lions, there was lots of chatter about the different wool textures and colours, about zoo & safari park visits and lots of other little reminiscence gems. This craft activity was really great to get everyone involved as we were able to take it to the residents who were in their rooms, it is very important to us that we look at activities we can take to the resident.

When we had a good selection of lions, some residents chose to keep theirs for their rooms, we were able to assemble our finished piece with the rest, I hope you all agree that the residents can take a great deal of ‘pride’ in themselves for such a ‘roarsome’ creation!

Herstory of Mayfair

‘Herstory’ of Mayfair

Residents across our services had a fantastic time joining Mandy Morrow for a virtual walking tour to learn about the ‘Herstory’ of Mayfair. The Mayfair of Nightingales may be long gone but it still holds a 20th century charm. Birthplace to the late Queen Elizabeth II, home to one of WWII's most decorated female war heroes and a tale of a wealthy Aristocrat and one of France's favourite designers.

We were delighted to take a walk down memory lane and discover stories from one of London's most iconic areas.  The experience was truly enjoyed by all.

It's All About Lymm

When Lymm High School approached us about an art project, the subject had to be Lymm, keeping everything local. Residents worked with yr 8 pupils from the school, to produce two large canvases using a variety of mediums representing Lymm ‘attractions’. The youngsters encouraged the residents to get involved and chatted away quite happily.

After the session Activities Coordinator, Jo Eland gave the pupils a short talk about Living with Dementia

It was a pleasure welcoming the pupils into our home and we hope to see them again very soon.

Liverpool Day Tripper

We would love to be very mysterious after our Liverpool trip and say 'What happens in Liverpool, stays in Liverpool' ..... but it was too good a day not to share

We boarded our bus with 5 residents who live on our Memory Lane Community and head west to Liverpool, classic pub songs filled the bus, Roll Out The Barrel, Daisy Daisy and many more.

We parked at the Pier Head and our destination was the new museum, we had lunch in the café there, before a mooch around the museum itself, we then sat overlooking the Mersey with ice creams before finishing the day with a few dances as a busker played Beatles tunes.

That's a brief summary of the day, but it doesn't show the laughter, smiles, residents interactions, priceless little quips, knowing looks, arguments with seagulls (you'd had to be there)!

Silence is golden

Cheshire Grange hosted their inaugural Silent Disco earlier this month, and for those passing by it was anything but silent, as those who were partying sang & danced along to music that was unheard by others.  Silent Discos first became popular around 2005, this was on the club and rave scene, allowing revellers to listen to music transmitted via wireless technology to head sets.

Over the years the technology has developed and Silent Discos play a big part in music therapy, the advances allow multi-channel us so different users to listen to different music. At our event the majority of residents were enjoying tracks from the 50s & 60s whilst a few had been connected to classical music, this being their preferred genre.  The afternoon was a huge hit with residents and staff, so many smiles and tears of laughter, when we took the headphones off Audrey she said ‘It can’t end, I want them back’

National Ice Cream Day

Residents across our homes had a fantastic time during a special live virtual event in celebration on National Ice Cream Day. Wall’s team took us on a great journey through history, sharing fascinating details about the brand since its launch in 1922. We learned about major innovations such as the introduction of Mr Whippy, Cornetto, Viennetta, Twister, and Carte d'Or.

Residents were treated to a singalong to Cornetto classic ads, an interactive quiz about fun Wall’s facts and best-of-all, an ice-cream tasting session. It was a delightful experience for everyone, especially our ice-cream lovers.
