Activities at Cheshire Grange Care Home

The activities team are constantly striving to meet the varied needs of everyone who lives in our home, offering a wide range of group and individual social events. There are regular visits from entertainers, along with craft activities, baking, games & puzzle days and pampering sessions, which fill the week. However, we can always find time for outings and just spending that little bit of special time with residents who enjoy the peace and quiet. We aim to bring the activities to the individual, whilst making it a whole home experience.

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Life at Cheshire Grange Care Home

Ladies That Lunch

Our ladies have declared  The Greenery at Glazebrook is their new favourite place for coffee, lunch and a good chit chat.

We were made very welcome by the team, our ladies enjoyed the sandwich selection as they chatted and reminisced about holidays. we were joined by a Olive's friend, which was really lovely. Resident Joan said 'the cakes were delicious, ALL the cakes!'

Pussy Cat, Pussy Cat Where Have You Been...?

…I’ve been to Cheshire Grange where all the best cats are seen!

We have our regular visits from Therapy dogs George & Snoop and have invited in Zoo Lab & Home Safari who've brought all manner of furries and not so furries for the residents to handle. However, we've never invited a cat in to visit, that is until recently

One of our newer members of the Cheshire Grange family was missing her cat, she enjoyed seeing Snoop & George but as much as they made her smile she said frequently 'I'm really a cat person'

This was where a fellow animal lover and 'cat person' had an idea, Lisa a Senior Carer on Memory Lane, spoke to the Manager and with a little bit of paperwork being put in place Lisa had the ultimate surprise for Liz.

Lisa's cat Florence had been given instructions to be on her very best behaviour, Florence didn't need to be told twice and cats being very instinctive knew that her visit was to a lady who would love her.... and we think the smiles say it all.

Showtime!

We welcomed Oliver and his one man whistle stop tour of show tunes to Cheshire Grange for the first time. Oliver’s energy filled the room and was infectious as he entertained with songs from South Pacific, Oliver, My Fair Lady and many more, donning various costume props for each song and performing as if on a West End stage.... residents were thrilled and are now looking forward to his return visit.

Pet Therapy Smiles , It’s a Dogs Life!

Studies have shown that interacting with a PAT Pet can improve a person’s mental health and overall wellbeing. There's often an increased connection with carers and family too, and those living with dementia can feel energised and elated. It comes down to a very simple truth: pets just make us feel happier.

We are very fortunate at Cheshire Grange to have regular weekly visits from two registered Pet As Therapy doggies, George a very playful SprockerDoodle and we have our newest edition to the doggie squad, Snoop a gentlemanly Cockerpoo.

It appears that Snoop gets as much pleasure from his visits as the residents do.

Remembering & Celebrating VE Day

We marked the 79th Anniversary of VE Day in true Cheshire Grange style. The home was decorated with bunting, flags and photographs from the era, residents' had listened to music and historic newsreels as well as reading some very poignant poetry. Residents shared some of their memories of the day, many recalling that everyone was singing and dancing but not really understanding why as they were only young children at the time.

After lunch it was time to don our dancing shoes, as we welcomed singer Lainey to take us on trip down memory lane, songs of the day got residents into the party spirit, there was much flag waving, singing and dancing and of course an abundance of smiles.

Chinese Language Day

Chinese Language Day gave Activities Coordinator Robecca, the perfect reason to teach the residents some basic sayings in Chinese. Residents practiced simple phrases, Hello, How are you and Thank you and quickly picked them. There were some cookies for residents to try too and the hospitality included a sweet & sour dish and Chinese curry on the days menu.
