Activities at Chester Court Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinator is dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.
Our aim is to make sure that our residents feel they had something to look forward to each day. We have a varied life enrichment programme, both in the home and in the community, and we always ask if there is anything different that residents would like to do. Residents and families approach our Activities Coordinator and comment on how much they enjoy what we do, so that we can continue to develop our programme to the benefit of our residents.
Lauren Corbett
Hi, my name is Lauren and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Chester Court. I joined the team in December 2020 and bring a wealth of enthusiasm to the role. I have just graduated from university in July 2020 and have previously completed work experience at another Barchester home. During this work experience I discovered how meaningful and important activities are for residents and how they can help enhance resident’s lives. Therefore, I decided to become an activities coordinator myself as I feel this is such a rewarding role.
I love working with our Residents here at the home and getting to know them and their families so that I can deliver and support in meaningful activities, keeping them socially stimulated and active as part of our extensive life enrichment calendar. The lifestyle and continued community links are also important.

Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Chester Court Care Home
Crystal Palace Chronicles
We had a lovely time joining Graham Whitlock for an exciting virtual event to discuss his book ‘The Crystal Palace Chronicles: Star of Nimrod’.
Our residents were thrilled to find out more about the book and the fictional character Joe, who went on a rollercoaster adventure travelling back in time to the heyday of Victorian Crystal Palace.
Everyone had lots of fun during the virtual talk, as Graham took them on a clever and hilarious adventure. A great time was had by all.
Dog therapy in the garden
Residents have been making the most of the dry weather. We sat out relaxing in the garden in the sunshine chatting and reminiscing. We also enjoyed dog therapy, playing fetch with Bruno and playing outdoor ball games ourselves.
International Nurses Day
On International Nurses Day residents created handmade cards to gift to our nurses here at Chester Court to say thank you for all of their hard work. We also had a visit from some residents from Meadow Park care home who also created cards for our nurses. Our nurses were very pleased when they received them and are thankful for the kind gesture!
Bullseye!
If you hadn’t noticed here at Chester Court we love to find fun ways to incorporate exercise into our activities. Ball darts is a firm favourite. Here is our winner of the day who consistently scored bullseyes!
Residents enjoy trip in the sun
Residents at Chester Court care home in Bedlington celebrated International Museum Day by visiting Woodhorn Museum in Ashington. Woodhorn Museum is the North East’s last remaining coal mining built heritage. The museum is also home to the The Ashington Group Collection of artworks, commonly known as the ‘Pitmen Painters’. This iconic display showcases what daily life was really like for miners in and around Ashington from the 1930s.
Residents enjoyed looking around the Pitman Painters art gallery, an outside tour of the colliery and learning all about Northumberland’s mining heritage. During the visit residents spent time reminiscing about their family history as their grandad was a miner and it brought back many memories and stories he had been told when he was younger. To finish off the day residents enjoyed a lovely picnic outside for their lunch.
Home raises funds for charity
Chester Court care home whipped up a baking treat on Saturday 7th May for Dementia UK’s biggest fundraiser of the year, Time for a Cuppa, fronted by TV star Emma Barton. Colleagues, friends and family came together with crumbs on seats and raised an incredible £130 which will go towards Dementia UK’s specialist Admiral Nurses.
Head Chef, Dawn Thompson and Activities Co-ordinator, Lauren Corbett organised an afternoon tea takeaway event to raise money for the charity. Dawn whipped up a selection of sandwiches, cheese scones, corn beef pie, cheese and onion quiche, cheese cake and chocolate cupcakes for the boxes. The event ended up a hit and the home sold a total of 26 boxes.
