Activities at Chester Court Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinator is dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.
Our aim is to make sure that our residents feel they had something to look forward to each day. We have a varied life enrichment programme, both in the home and in the community, and we always ask if there is anything different that residents would like to do. Residents and families approach our Activities Coordinator and comment on how much they enjoy what we do, so that we can continue to develop our programme to the benefit of our residents.
Lauren Corbett
Hi, my name is Lauren and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Chester Court. I joined the team in December 2020 and bring a wealth of enthusiasm to the role. I have just graduated from university in July 2020 and have previously completed work experience at another Barchester home. During this work experience I discovered how meaningful and important activities are for residents and how they can help enhance resident’s lives. Therefore, I decided to become an activities coordinator myself as I feel this is such a rewarding role.
I love working with our Residents here at the home and getting to know them and their families so that I can deliver and support in meaningful activities, keeping them socially stimulated and active as part of our extensive life enrichment calendar. The lifestyle and continued community links are also important.

Life at Chester Court Care Home
Conversations by the Pond
We had a lovely time joining Henry Slator for an exciting virtual event to discuss his book ‘Conversations at the Pond’.
Henry had an unusual writing journey, which many of our residents found inspiring, he underwent chemotherapy in early 2020, which allowed him to rediscover his light-hearted outlook on life by imagining conversations with creatures in and around his large garden pond and adding buckets of fun.
The entertaining Conversations at the Pond, with its mass of colourful illustrations, took our residents along his journey, they felt inspired, cheered and loved hearing all about Henry’s experiences.
A trip out to Cramlington
Residents had an amazing day on their first outing in over 2 years due to covid! We had a trip to Cramlington where we shopped till we dropped! We went into Bonmarche, Next, The Works, Wilko, Asda and B&M. We then enjoyed a delicious lunch at Muffin Break cafe and we even went into Pets at Home and had a look at all of the animals!
Easter celebrations
Staff and residents at Barchester’s Chester Court care home, in Bedlington, celebrated Easter with a whole host of different activities including dressing up, decorating the home and holding an Easter raffle.
Residents at Chester Court enjoyed an eggs-tensive range of Easter activities including, an Easter bonnet and an egg decorating competition, Easter crafts, an Easter raffle, making chocolate rice crispy cakes, playing a bunny ring toss game and receiving chocolate gifts from the Easter bunny. Residents also tucked in to a delicious Sunday roast followed by the delicious rice crispy cakes they created earlier in the day.
A right royal brew!
Chester Court in Bedlington marked the Queen’s 96th birthday on April 21st in style by brewing up a storm for National Tea Day and having an afternoon tea party.
Head chef Dawn whipped up a tasty selection of freshly-baked blueberry muffins, jam tarts, cakes and sandwiches for the occasion, all washed down with a selection of different teas. Residents took part in royal and tea-themed sessions including an afternoon tea in the garden, virtual tours of royal palaces, a royal quiz and learning facts about tea growing and production.
Sarah, General Manager at Chester Court said: “Our residents love nothing more than a good cuppa so they all really enjoyed the choice of different teas, cakes and events for National Tea Day, and, as a nation who truly loves their tea, it was great excuse for an afternoon brew and a natter. It was also a lovely way to say thank you to our longest reigning monarch.”

Guide Dog Talk
Residents enjoyed a talk about Guide Dogs and got to meet Coco, a guide dog who is near her retirement. It was a very interesting talk we learnt the origins of guide dogs and all about how guide dog puppies are trained. At the end we also got to ask any questions we had as well as stroke Coco and give her some very deserved treats! We also gifted the money we raised for the charity from our raffle.
